- Q:I brought home a new microsuede sofa, and didn't even think about the static problem, until my 3-year old daughter sat down on it. (Her baby fine hair, looked like she had a finger in an electrical socket!) She's been crying since, because she's been shocking herself, and I'm wondering what would be the best thing to do. I am thinking Static Guard, but then I wonder if those first couple globs that drip from the first spray, might fall onto the sofa and stain it. And then I'm wondering if I were to use dryer sheets, would the fabric then feel like it had an almost waxy like residue left on it (as subtle as it might be). Has anyone experienced this before? The fabric is cocoa, so it's not like I can hide any stains in dark fabric. Thanks for your help!
- static guard will work just fine ,if you're worried about glops hold a paper towel under the actuator to catch them -spray the carpet below too -it actually happens from the plastic it comes wrapped in . Poor baby! spray that thing soon! good luck to you your sofa and mostly your little one.

- Q:I have a friend that is becoming a Contractor at a base in Japan. He asked me if he could become a permanent resident of Japan. In case anyone doesn't know what SOFA status means it is the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA). I'm am wondering if there is anyone on this forum that has done it before? I have read in previous answers that you must live at Japanese addresses for five years. I'm not sure working for the US Goverment would count. I don't think he is going to marry a Japanese national as well. Can anyone that has done this chime in please? Thanks
- If you want to apply for PR, you need to stay in Japan for more than 5 years under WORKING VISA. But if you are in US military, you will stay in Japan under SOFA status as others say. So you will not be eligible to apply for PR.

- Your best bet would be to check your local stores. Look for 'specials' and 'going-out-of-business' sales for the best deals. There are stores online that sell sofa beds, but when you calculate the shipping costs, the price becomes exorbitant. Good luck. If you live near a JC Penney's, their prices and quality are good. They also have great customer service.

- No when you sleep on them, you can feel the steel bar under the mattress. If you put a thick layer of foam over them, it helps because the mattresses are usually too thin.

- Q:My mom claims that by me sitting on my sofa, I am wearing it out. Now, of course this puts wear on it. But does this put in actually wear on it? Like does it decrease the longevity of the couch? If you have any sources you can site, that would be great.
- Well, of course, sitting on it will eventually wear it out. Friction on the fabric wears it thin (and eventually, out), sitting on the cushions flatten them, etc. If you go to any house where people have a front room (that is seldom used) and a family room that is always used, which sofa looks newer? Using slip-covers will keep a sofa looking newer longer, by protecting the fabric from wear, stains, and fading, but cannot protect cushions from getting flattened. If use didn't eventually wear furniture out, there wouldn't be much need to replace it, and used furniture wouldn't look used.
