- Q: I am looking into buying this chair because I think it is beautiful! I plan on reupholstering it in some colorful fabric. She says there are no markings except for a sticker that claims it was reupolstered in 1987 or 1977 hard to read. There are 2 wheels on the front 2 legs. Other than that I do not know much about it. Any opinions or knowledge would be much appreciated, Thanks! The pictures are attached bellow.
- this is a nice looking chair and the wood stained finish is good == do not change the finish of the wood .... a trip to the fabric store or maybe two trips will help you search for a needlepoint tapestry scene fabric to recover the back and seat and the rear of the seat back == you really do not want to do any colorful fabric as this will not be the style of such a nice chair ....the value of the chair may well be over $500.00 but you should follow your heart as far as price Be careful that it is [[ in fact ]] over 100 years old .. look at the chair and determine if you can see signs of it being a totally symetrical carved by hand wooden chair -- the wood carving of the top seat back does indicate to me that it was done by hand = most 100 to 150 year old furniture has a rubbed glossy finish and the photo does not show that === I have looked at well over 1000 chairs and did not find anything even close to your pick == just try the local library for books of antique chairs and furniture === if you like the chair and it suits your needs and you can afford the chair .... buy and enjoy .....

- I like to fold up camping chairs that you can get from stores, they come with their own carrying case and the fabric is water proof and holds up well. As for being funky, I like to get one already made and decorate it myself, I do sewing but it is not worth the bother to recover a chair, instead I use fabric paint (bottled and spray on). I have even super glued patches on the back (no stitches because it can weaken the fabric)! Do you know an artist in the family that can paint the orders' mascot or troop numbers on the back? Have fun!
- Q: I have some oak dining room chairs and a few are getting wobbly. Should I take them apart and re-glue them or will that make it worse. What should I do?
- I hate to voice the dissenting opinion, but I respectfully disagree with the other answers. Often attempting to disassemble a chair joint can cause more harm than good. Of course it depends on your specific chair, but because of the way a chair is assembled, you may have to stress or pull several joints apart in order to re-glue one. I would consider other methods first. One way is to squirt adhesive into the joint with a syringe. They make a glue applicator specifically for that purpose. If the joint is a mortise and tenon (hole and peg), you can sometimes drill a small hole in the chair leg opposite the joint just big enough to fit the syringe nozzle. Fill the hole with adhesive and clamp. Another available product (also with a syringe applicator) simply swells the joint so it becomes a tight, wobble free fit. In my experience, it works - but only temporarily. I also disagree with using 'Gorilla' type glue. Poly glues are strong, but expand when they dry and try to force the glue joint apart. Certainly you can avoid this by securely clamping the joint, but I think a yellow carpenter's glue is a better choice. They are also much easier to clean up. Either way, if you do separate the joint, remove as much of the old adhesive as possible. Glue works best when adhering to raw, unsealed wood. Good luck!

- Q: I live in a large apartment complex which has large private pool for residents. Most of the people in the pool are kids. There is always one lifeguard on duty. There is a 6 foot high lifeguard chair, but the lifeguards all refuse to use it even though it is in excellent condition and allows them to see all corners of the pool from high up. The lifeguards sit on a lawn chair next to the side of the pool, about 7 feet from the pool. When the pool is full of rambunctious kids, it is impossible for the lifeguard to see all the kids from that angle.Can someone give me an official definition of the purpose of an elevated lifeguard chair so that I can file a formal complaint and have this matter dealt with so the kids are safe. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.Thank you
- You answered your own question. The purpose of the chair is elevation to allow for greater visibility of the pool, and just as important, to allow the lifeguard to see the bottom of the pool (people that have sunk to the bottom in need of rescue).

- If it is a Knoll chair it should have a tag or label on the bottom. If it does not have a label, it is probably a knock off, but still a really good looking chair! You could always try to contact your nearest Knoll Furniture dealer or representative in the area, and speak to them about how to authenticate it and find out when it was made.
- Q: Is there a better (meaning cheaper but ergonomically excellent) chair to buy for my home office?
- Probably, but shop around. I found drastically different prices from site to site.
- Q: I have a dilema for chair coverings.... All the chairs within the venue are different colors... The table coverings are going to be white burlap with pale yellow runners. My centerpieces are going to be cut aspen trees hollowed out and sunflowers in them. It is a rustic simple wedding.
- The backs of the chairs can be wrapped nicely using the rolls of plastic tablecloth that you buy at the hobby shop or party store. You have to have someone with artistic flair to tie beautiful bows using the colors you like and layering them. As for the seats, they won't really matter as much of the time, folks will be sitting in them and you can't see the seats until you sit down. You make bows that drape down the back so you can't see the seat unless you're pulling out the chair to sit down on it. The plastic tablecloth is inexpensive and if you have the right person doing this - it will look like cloth. You could even use floral picks as a part of it.
