- Mix about 1 tablespoon of laundry soap and warm water in a bucket, dip a white cloth in the bucket, make sure to wring out the cloth as best as possible, wipe chair let dry and vacuum. I have microfiber pillows and have cleaned them using the same method. Great for the car interior too! Good Luck!

Perhaps your chair is made of material and is simply absorbing dirt, dust and smells and aromas from just daily living ie ~ perfumes, food smells, cigarette smoke etc.etc.etc. A good way to spritz it up and sanitise it is to go get yourself some pure essential eucalyptus oil from the chemist or local pharmacy. Put a capfull of eucalyptus oil into a spray bottle full of warm water, shake well and spray over the entire surface of your chair and wipe over with a damp cloth or sponge. Eucalyptus oil is a brilliant antibacterial and antiseptic agent and will eliminate all those nasty odors that are bugging you so much? It is also an all natural remedy and contains no chemicals or nasties to irritate sensitive bodies? Caution: Don't use eucalyptus oil if you have high blood pressure or suffer from epilepsy?if either is the case simply substitute for pure essential tea tree oil, which is also a great antibacterial and antiseptic? - why would you want to do that? anything over 100 years is an antique and to clean it like you want to would ruin it and ruin it's value. That chair has lots of memories as well so you should be able to accept that. If that chair didn't come to you from family then there are wood cleaners, but I certainly would never take the varnish off of it and if you try to take any wax buildup off of it you will also remove the varnish and then will have to have all of it removed to have it restained and recovered (with plastic or varnish). So I'd say leave it alone. I know because I've always thought things had to be clean and sparkling clean and ruined everything I had.
