- ok before replacing have you cleaned the inside, and if there are air bubbles comming out it is because it is running dry. Basically all biocubes do this, the filter pad is slowing down the water too much, so either rince it well or replace it. Also i would wash out the blue sponge right before the pump as that can hold alot of dirt as well. Then if not add more water. But if you want to replace the pump, try via aqua water pumps. they tend to be the best. owner of the BC 29 and BC 14

- The timing belt drives the Water Pump in a VW- ??????????????????? I don't think so. That said, it is under the timing belt and you must remove it to access the pump, heck you have to strip the entire front of the engine to get that bad boy out. I would order the Housing with the pump already installed and a new housing O-Ring and get new bolts. The reason is that the actual pump bolts tend to snap on removal and are next to impossible to drill out of the housing. My guess is a lousy install if it is leaking or substandard parts. In that case water should not be problem. If it can pump water then it should be able to pump oil also. If it is a gear pump then it will not pump water for very long before there is a problem. Typically gear pumps for water have nylon or similar type of gears. If it is a plunger pump then is the packing is lubricated or made from telfon then it will be okay. A piston type pump will need either lubrcation for water service or telfon rings and packing.
