Q:We've recently moved houses and have found there is sandflies/biting insects everywhere. Into the afternoon my TB mare especially is being eaten alive by the insects and is rubbing herself on the fences and she now is starting to loose her coat because of it. I'm looking at buying at coat for her that we can put on her to hopefully stop the insects but as well the sun, but I have know idea what type of rug I should get her... We live in a really hot and humid area so we need something cool. Is there anyone who can help??: There okorder and also maybe on OKorder. I had a TB who had the same issue. Other things that help are: coating them with flyspray every chance you get AND using those Fly Predators things... they really work but I think the season is over for them.

Q:My roommate and I were cleaning carpets in our 1st floor apartment yesterday with a carpet spray called RESOLVE. We bought it at Target and tied it on the carpets but it didn't work well. Then my roommate tried to clean the carpet by water. He dumped the bucket of water and tried to dry it with a sponge. Obviously, it didn't work and the carpet is still wet. We were going to call a cleaning company but we are still trying to figure out how to dry them by ourselves. How bad is that if we just leave it and wait until the carpets dry? It's not flooded but it feels wet. I appreciate it if someone could help me.: Use a wet/dry vac to suck the water out of the carpet. You can buy a small one for around $20-30 if you don't have one. Then point a fan on the carpet to speed up the drying. I would buy a couple of cheap fan (like at Walmart) to use to dry the carpet. If the air outside is dry, open the windows when doing this. If it is humid out, crank the AC (if you have one).

Q:Most of the powder carpet freshners have so much perfume in them they trigger a migraine and I can't use them. Not to mention they are pretty pricey for what you actually get. Is plain ole' Arm Hammer baking soda a good alternative? Any other suggestions for freshing carpet?: Baking soda works well as a carpet freshener and you really want to kill odors in the carpet (pets,smoke,etc) just sprinkle with some dry coffee grounds and then vacuum after 20 minutes or so. Another good way to freshen carpets without damage is 1 capful of liquid fabric softener to 3 cups water in a spray bottle. Vacuum first and then mist carpet to freshen!

Q:How can I clean my carpet really well without using a steamer/shampooer? There's no stains on it and I vacuum regularly, but when my baby starts crawling i don't want a nasty germy, oil/dirt infested, carpet. What products are good?: the best thing to do if you are going to have the baby on the floor is not to use any chemicals at all. juts do this take hot water and mix in about a tablespoon of liquid dish detergant then take a stiff scrub brush and dip it in the water. Shake the bursh so most of the water comes out, then brush it over the carpet a few times and wipe with a soft cloth. when the carpet dries run the vacuum over it. It will get the dirt and oil out of your carpet and can also remove the stains from regular wear on your carpet. It may be allitle time consuming but it works well and is more healty for your child since there are no harmfull chemicals in the soap.

Rotate your area rugs as often as possible (1-2 years), when you notice the high traffic areas of your rug starting to look dirty, or the nap has lost its original direction or shape. Rotating your rugs will allow them to wear more evenly, maintaining their original appearance and value. Also, rotate your rugs according to the amount of direct sunlight. Over time direct sunlight can fade the dyes of your rugs.

Q:wy do we need carpets, why are carpets important? why did you buy a carpet?thanks: There are two reasons why we need carpets. The first is that when you have to pee really bad and can't make it to the bathroom, you can just pee on the floor and it will soak it up nice and tidily. The second reason is because carpets are warmer than wooden or cement floors and are softer on you toesies. I recommend carpets if you have arthritis. Also, carpets should be pink with black skulls on them. and maybe a blue turtle.
