Q: Wire diagram: Hello there George, It has become common over the past few years that non-residential boilers are wired with EPO (emergency, power off) switches just outside each door to the boiler room. This is similar to having fire alarm pull boxes by the exits. I do not know of any jurisdiction that requires it for a residence. On occassion I've seen the 24 volt circuit for the thermostat being switched, which is a bit sketchy. Normally the 120 volt circuit for the controller is switched. The switches used are of the pushbutton type.

Q: Can I run a 10 gauge 2 wire plus ground from a double pole 30 amp breaker to a dryer that uses 240v? I need to know if the one black wire will be sufficient or if i need to get a 2 hot one neutral wire.: You can use the 10/3 wire, but you wire it so that the black and the white are hot wires and the ground is the neutral. Of course you won't have the bare ground to use as a ground anymore, so if you want it wired with a bare ground to the cabinet, you will need to run a separate bare ground. Or get different wire with a red a black a white and a bare ground. Red and black will be hot, white will be neutral and bare ground will be ground.

Q: where can i buy these type of wires (copper insulated wires)??: Hi i would be sure to use insulated wires in most situations, the only time bare wires are considered is when there is absolutely no chance of any one touching them and the only time that situation ever occurs is in the case of an antenna for receiving a radio signal. the wire should as high of the ground as possible so no one could touch it.

Q: Im cleaning up some of the wires in the engine bay and getting rid of ones i dont use. Right now theresthe pos side bat post runs down to the starter. From the starter there is a thicker wire and a skinny wire. In the thicker wire there is a wire that goes to the post on alternator. Both wires from starter run over to a relay maybe ithas a stud sticking out and has a wire that goes from the bottom of it to the fuse box. Im in middle of relocating the battery into the trunk so what wires can i eliminate and what wires have to go,to the battery?: Look okorder they have exactly what you need a new wiring harness. The one you have now is no good. That is whay its better to get something that works or put it back where it was save your money and get it done right. I have seen old fords chevy and dodges melt down all that happens is the wiring harness melts together because one wire got hooked up wrong and got so hot from the battery shorting it out that it melted all the rest of the wires from the battery to the fuse block. That is not what you want. I can also tell you there is a way to test the wiring before you jiggle it around the front to the back. But if you do not have a multi meter you cannot test or do it correctly. guessing is not a good plan. Find some one who know wiring and learn from them or leave it alone until you learn. opening the hood to find your car is on FIRE REALLY SUCKS.

Q: In the ceiling is one black, one white and a ground. How do I connect a new ceiling fan to these two wires? The ceiling fan has black wire, white wire, a blue wire and a green wire. We don't have green in the ceiling nor do we have a ground...knob and tube perhaps? So, can we connect this fan or not?Thanks!: Personally, I would not connect anything to old knob-n-tube wiring. I would replace all of it with modern wiring. And as for a ceiling fan, not only does it require a box designed for ceiling fan support (which I doubt you have right now), it also requires 3 wires, served by a 14/3 Romex with ground. It will have a black, white, red, and bare ground. The red wire is for the light, black for the fan, white neutral, and bare copper to green ground. On the wall, you will need a double-gang box containing 2 devices. One is a standard light switch controlling the light. The other is a fan controller unit ($12.49 at Home Depot) for the fan speed. It has 4 click-stops, High, Medium, Low, and Off. It uses a standard double-switch wallplate. On the fan itself, cut the chains off. Be sure the fan is set to HIGH, and the light ON when you cut them.

Q: I am trying to replace a GFCI outlet, there are 6 wires -3 White, 2 Black Ground. I have tried to wire it several times and indicator light comes on but it doesn't trip or work when something is plugged in. It's in a box with 2 light switches and I believe feeds down to another switch plug because they are currently not working. As well as my microwave which is on the same circuit. So long story short how do I wire this thing?: You need to find which set of wires is the feed 1st. Turn off breaker for that circuit disconnect wires . Then turn breaker back on . Which black wire is hot ? Remember which black wire has power. Then shut off breaker again . The black wire that is hot gets connected to your line voltage connection side ( Gold screw on outlet ) the white wire goes to the other line voltage side ( Silver screw ) . The other black and white wire gets connected to the load side of the GFI . If the screws are all the same color for some reason . Remember the longer slot is always the neutral or white wire . The smaller slot is the black or hot wire . Ground to the green screw .Turn breaker back on and test .
