Q: My water pump is losing pressure slowly even though no water is being used. Your help is appreciated. Thank you.
Water Pump Loses Pressure
Q: I'm trying to sell my 97 Ford Escort. It needs a water pump but I have no idea what the cost is. I just want to know so I can post an estimate of how much it costs on the site I'm selling it on.
A water pump cost between $25.00 and $30.00 in the area where I live or for that matter in most areas of the US. The problem is that water pump replacement is one of the most expensive jobs to perform. A water pump replacement requires the removal of many engine components, such as the generator, fan blades, drive belts and so on taking a few hours to complete. Here is a brief cost breakdown on a typical job like this. Water Pump $30.00 Coolant replacement $15.00 Gasket$ 7.00 Gasket sealant$ 5.00 Labor $ 140.00
Q: Water is pumped through a pipe of diameter 13.0 cm from the Colorado River up to Grand Canyon Village, on the rim of the canyon. The river is at 564 m elevation and the village is at 2311 m.(a) At what minimum pressure must the water be pumped to arrive at the village? (in MPa)b) If 4300 m3 are pumped per day, what is the speed of the water in the pipe? (in m/s)(c) What additional pressure is necessary to deliver this flow? Note: You may assume that the free-fall acceleration and the density of air are constant over the given range of elevations.( in kPa)I have tried this over and over but i know B it is 3.75 m/s please help if you know to do this THANKS!!!!!
a) Pressure is the weight of a 1 meter square column of water. The height of the pipe is 2311-564 = 1747 m volume is 1747 m? density of water is density of water at 20C = 0.998 g/cm? = 998 kg/m? mass of water is 1747 m? x 998 kg/m? = 1744000 kg weight of water is 1744000 x 9.8 = 17090000 N Pressure is 17090000 N/m? or 17.09 MP b) Cross sectional are of pipe is A = πr? A = π(.065)? = 0.0133 m? one meter of pipe has a volume of .0133 m? 4300 m? are pumped per day The water in that one meter of pipe has to be changed 4300 / 0133 = 324000 times per day to handle the flow That is 324000 / (24*3600) times per second or 3.75 times per second. Since the section of pipe is is 1 meter, that is 3.75 meters per second.
Q: I'm going on a week long hiking trip and need safe water. What brand and model of water filter/pump should i get? Whats good quality for a low price?
I like the MSR miniworks because it is reliable and easily serviceable. The downside is that it is heavy. If weight is an issue, I will either use bleach or Aquatabs to treat the water.
Q: here is the problem with my water pump control switch settings. the water is being used, runs dry and stays off for sometimes 3 minutes or so.i realize the springs control the cut in and cut out. do i need to make the spring more compressed to make the pump come on sooner? or do i need to make the spring looser to make the switch come on sooner?when i read/hear about adjusting the cut in. the answers seem vague because i do not know the perspecitve of the spring.does compressing the spring make the swith flip easier? or does compressing the spring make the switch harder to flip on?i installed a new 30/50 switch today. My air tank was at 50 or so PSI. but i dropped it to about 30. is the goeal to make the entire full system 50 pounds? because after my pump cycles i get about 70 psi!!!
with the switch set to operate at 30/50 the tank should have 27 or 28 pounds of air with no water in tank and a faucet open with pump turned off...once this is set the pump will come on at 30 and off at 50 if it goes higher than this the switch is bad or the adjustments have been changed....tightening the tall spring turns both cut in and cut off pressure higher...loosening the tall spring turns both cut in and cut off lower....the short spring sets the difference between the two...tightening the shorth spring raises cut off pressure only...loosening the short spring lowers cut off pressure only....
Q: In case our electric goes out we would like to be able to run the water pump (for the well) via solar panel. Can you give me instructions, pitfalls, recommendations, links etc to help me get started? The more solar info i can get the better!thanks 10 points on offer! Our sunlight is unobstructed

Q: I have replaced my water heater and water pump because the owner before me didnt drain it over the winter... but know the water suputers when the pump is on.. when I hook up to city water it works great.. I have not been able to find any leaks.. any ideas???
sounds like not enough pressure try to cypher air through it before using, good luck
Q: It has a small leak that started this day and it has 60000 miles on it , also new or rebuilt . What is the appr. cost tohave a shop do it ?
probably not that hard but if you want the best result take it to a shop. but if they dont do good you can always thke them to court lol
Q: overheating.it has a new thermostat,radiator is clean.temp stays normal during idle,rises when i start to drive.ac is off when this happens.its a 4.7 dodge durango.can water pump simplyquot;go badquot;without ever leaking?
The short answer to your question: It is unlikely that a water pump will go bad without leaking, but weirder things have happened. Your thinking is right overheating only when you drive is an indication of limited flow, either caused by a restriction (radiator, hose, thermostat), an air bubble, or a bad pump. Are you sure that the air is bled out of your system? If you have an air pocket in your engine or at the pump, you will get reduced flow. I think that the 4.7 Durango has a radiator cap, if so, with the engine cold, take the cap off, fill it, and start the engine. If you get bubbles every time you rev the engine, then you may have a bad head gasket, this would introduce bubbles in the system... Make sure that the lower radiator hose is not collapsing. Most of these hoses have a stiff spring inside to keep them from collapsing when the water pump is running. Otherwise, my guess would be that your pump is bad, or you have more restrictions in your system. Good luck.
Q: I have a Chevy Express Van 3500, i believe that the water pump is leaking, how long would it last before major breakage?
If it really is the water pump, then the coolant is seeping out of the weep hole at the bottom of the pump. Leakage from this location indicates that the seal around the shaft is worn. Eventually (no more than a few days), the leak will degrade to the point that the pump must be replaced. I personally don't use stop-leak in any system in our cars - I prefer to fix the leak and be done with it! For now, keep a close eye on that leak - and your temperature gauge.
