Q: Is the Rug Doctor carpet shampooer really all its cracked up to be? And if not what is? I am trying to get rid of urine stains in my dining room from my persistent pooch. Any suggestions?: The only problem I have had with the Rug Doctor machine is that it really soaks your carpet. I bought a Bissell steam cleaner for under $150 and it works far better and dries in less than 3 hours! Now whenever I have a stain I just grab my own machine and the stain is gone! I also use it on the carpets in my vehicles and on my sofas. It comes with an upholstery cleaner wand. The solution is also less expensive than the Rug Doctor. Good luck!

Q: If you have an apartment with Pergo or hardwood floors in an older building that doesn't have a lot of insulation will rugs, curtains and the like help with reducing noise transmission to other units?: It's funny you mentioned water torture. Actually, having a water feature like a fountain or anything that makes a running water noise will help. Place it near a window. I once lived a few doors down from a pedestrian crosswalk in Japan that beeped with one sound for all blind people crossing one direction, and a different beep for going across the other side of the intersection. It was 24 hours a day, and switched about every 25 seconds. I thought I would die at first, but after 3 years (ha ha!) I barely noticed it! Good luck to you!

Q: If I were to knit a throw rug, what size needles and what type of yarn would work best for the project?: You can use any size yarn, but I'd opt for a larger needle. I made a purse out of strips of fabric I had left over from a quilting project. I simply knit every row until it was the size I wanted. It would have been great as a rug if I'd had enough fabric, but it had a great rag look to it! I think I used HUGE needles, size 19 or 35 to make it. This was a lot of fun, and the project was made VERY quickly!

Q: I have a rug in my bathroom, the fluffy kind with the rubber bottom that you step out on after you get out of the shower. It's kind of funky and needs to be washed, but I don't know how I'm supposed to wash it. Can I just throw it into the washing machine like a towel as long as I run it on the cold cycle?
