- Take a normal mix of PROPER carpet cleaner (not washing up liquid, that contains glycerine and leaves a sticky film for more dirt to cling to!!!) add to your carpet cleaner mix 25% Ammonia, scrub by hand (open widows are good!!!) then rinse off with a wet and dry vacuum cleaner.

- Go to your local mom and pop carpet store . Not the big box stores. Ask them. They have to dispose of carpet they rip out of homes and bussinesses and have to pay to have it hauled away from their store. I used to give it away like that to save costs.But this is often very dirty carpet so heads up. GL

- Q: wax cleanup from rug
- don't use an iron. You have a good chance of melting your rug if it is made of synthetic fiber. I used an iron on a rug before and the rug material actually melted and stuck to the cloth I had laid on top. If your carpet is wool or cotton it won't melt...but the melted wax will actually wick into the carpet fiber when it liquifies. Do the opposite. Get a bag of ice and freeze it for several minutes, then scrape the hardened wax from the carpet with a credit card or plastic scraper. If there is any wax color remaining in the carpet, you may have more problems.

- Q: I've had this area rug/carpet for a few years. It still looks great, but it has fold marks, and I always have to pull it to even it out, I believe it is caused by the coffee table. Is there a way to undo this?
- What the problem is, is that either the backing on the rug is bent or the rug is made of very strong durable material. Either way, using a little hand held steamer will do the trick. It might take a little while, but it does work. Be sure to protect whatever is behind it, no matter what process you decide to use! If it is small enough, you can take it outside and pour very hot water on the folds. However, hot water shrinks the material. So, you will need to have it pulled tight and secured. Using an iron with a wet cloth atop it is a good idea, too. Give that a go first. If it doesn't work, go with the steamer. Good Luck!

- Oh yes, a rug under the table is very popular in a dining room. There is often less textiles in a dining room compared to other rooms in the house, so a rug fits the bill. In order to pull this off and have the rug look right, it has to function correctly in two regards. First, it has to be in proportion to the scale of the room. Secondly, it is wise to get the right size which allows the chairs freedom of movement. Step foot into your dining room with a tape measure. The rule of thumb for a room size rug is to have the rug set within 12 to 24 from the walls--that is for a room size rug. An area rug under a dining table can be smaller and is measured as such: Pull the side chairs and the chairs at the foot and the head of the table out just far enough as if you were going to sit down. Now, measure how wide and how long the chairs are away from one another. That is the size of the rug you should purchase for under the dining room table. Idealy, the rug should be large enough so the chairs always are on the rug. Sometimes you can get away with being short, only if, when the chair is pushed under the table, all chair legs are on the rug.
