- The ground wire in an automobile accessory installation is to make the complete circuit for the electricity to follow. Some things on cars use the frame and metal panels for grounding, but for an amp and some radios you probably should not. The battery is grounded to the frame and to the engine.

- The wire that leads to your socket may be worn or damaged. Find out which wire is not working. Use a meter that has a sharp probe, so you can stab the wire with the probe and see if it is putting out the electricity, up the wire from where you put the socket on. If the wire is not working, but off the part of the wire that is not working and splice in a new piece of wire and attach to the socket. Hopefully this will help you.

- A hot wire gage is a tool that tells you which wire(s) are hot meaning that they have electricity running through them. If you go to the tool store you would ask for a voltage detector. These are about the size of a pen. They light up and beep when the detect voltage. I highly recommend having one when doing electrical. There is nothing worse than grabbing a wire that you thought was powered off only to get lit up. Hope this helps.

- No. CAT 5 is made for data transfer and not for something where interferences are likely to cause trouble. I would recommend using speaker wire, and only speaker wire. Speaker wire contains more stands or finer wire. This reduces the rick of line static and feedback to generate. Also, the insulation on speaker wire is much better than that of CAT 5.

- Wire is just wire. It alone does not know positive from negative. However, some great problems could lie below the surface. It really depends on what is on the other end of the wire. There may be some problems associated with not following a good wiring practice such as: Creating a short circuit and blowing the amp Putting one of the two speakers out of polarity with the other resulting in lower or no acoustical output. The best practice is to ALWAYS relate the positive or PLUS terminal with the wire with the same designation with the speaker terminal. That way, if you have to do any trouble shooting, you can trace is back and know without a doubt what is connected to what.

- You got lots of good answers but I like Lic. Electricians best. If you are in an older Mobile home where all the wiring is aluminum be very, very careful about over loading receptacles. Aluminium wire was outlawed for use in branch circuits (receptacles, lights) because there were many documented fires as a result of its use. If you are concerned about aluminum wire to the panel or major appliances, have someone check/tighten the connections.

- Your bank may set a limit on the amount they will allow per wire transfer, but that would be the only limit. My company accepts wire transfers for international business almost daily and there have been a couple of time when I have had to have the purchasing company send a 2nd wire for the balance because the 1st exceeded the banks allowable transfer amount. Of course when that happens you have to be sure that you include the mark up to the customer invoice because you will be charges for each wire transfer by your bank. (some banks don't charge for incoming wires, some do.)
