Q: Currently I have the two wires no ground wire and some two wire with ground outlets (upgrade some time before). Is it allowed in the NEC to run a separate ground wire from one of the two wire with ground outlet to the two wire outlet without changing the old wires?
It is acceptable to run a separate ground to each box, but like Rusty said, if the wiring to the boxes is BX (flexible metal) or conduit, and the boxes are metallic, then your chances are pretty good that they're already grounded. A GFCI isn't a cure all, and will only work if it has it's own ground. It must also be properly wired to protect downstream outlets.
Q: I want to install a single-pole dimmer switch for a series of 4 pot lights in the same box (double gang) as a kill switch for a receptical already installed. There is a 14-3 wire (b/w/r/g) brigning power into the box from the main, and 14-2 wiring for the dimmer and 14-2 wire for the kill switch. How do I wire this? The single pole dimmer has a ground and two black wires. The switch to kill the receptical has only two brass screws on one side.
Wires that have continual power are called source wires. One of the source wires (any color other than white or green) should be hooked up to one of the brass screws on your kill switch. The other brass screw will have the wire going to the receptacle. NOTE: A switch is used to connect/break the connection of power going to an appliance/fixture. The other source wire will go to one of the black wires on your dimmer switch. The other black wire on the dimmer switch will go to the 4 pot lights as its source, in which we call a switch leg. The ground wire of the dimmer switch is hooked to the ground wire in the box. No white or neutral wires are needed for this...Test the wires first so that you know what wire is for what. Then, make sure you turn off all power so that you don't damage the dimmer switch.
Q: my light stopped working ( a chandalier ). It has brown wires, blue wires, red wires, beige wires, and white wires.
Wow, this is a first. most lights have just two wires a black<hot and a white<neutral wire and you just hook black to black using a wire-nut and the same with the white wire and the switch completes the circuit. In some ceiling fans they have blue or brown wires that are also hot to run to the lights at the bottom of the ceiling fans to power that but a chandelier should not have all of that. You might want to call in an electrician for this particular problem because if its a junction box with other wires hooked into that area it could cause a fire or worse a loss of life if you don't know what your doing and disconnect the electricity from the electrical panel by shutting off the power and checking it with a meter. Hope this helps and I would love to see a pic of that chandelier that has that many different color wires!!! wow
Q: I have a wire coming from the car battery positive terminal. It is 12v DC. I want to split this wire to two other wires. I cannot connect another wire to the positive terminal. Will splitting this wire cause the voltage to drop to 6v each wire? or will they pull a constant 12v each?
No, each will carry 12v. I wouldn't advise physically splitting the wire though - you loose the insulation which is dangerous and you reduce the size of the wire which means that it may not be suitable for high current and could melt.
Q: Ok I've been changing the old outlets in the house and all of them were fine until I got to this 1 outlet. The outlet had 1 ground wire, 2 white and 2 black (if that helps). The wires were a little chewed up looking so when I went to wrap the upper white wire to its screw it broke and now the wire won't reach the screw and certain lights in the house won't turn on because of it. I probably should have left it alone because of the condition of the wires but its too late now so how do I go about getting the wire to reach its screw ? Thanks
using a wire nut just get the same size wire cut it about 4 inches long and make whats called a pig tail use the wire nut to connect the new wire to the short one its most likley a 14/2 wire if its on a 15 amp breaker if its on a 20/amp you should use a 12/2 wire
Q: Why would I want to upgrade the wires on my airsoft gun? What does it do?
cheap wires tend to break over time, short out, etc. It's nice to have quality stuff in you gun.
Q: Hey I have a standard Epiphone Les Paul, and I just bought some brand new Burstbucker pickups online. The one's I bought haven't arrived yet but in the picture, it looks like there is only 1 wire coming out of each pickup. When I take my wire cover off, i can see 1 wire comes out, but it's really 2 wires insulated to look like 1. What can I do so that I can put these expensive pickups in my guitar??
The two wires inside the larger one coming out of your current pickup represent hot and sheild. The hot wire is the signal and the sheild is a negative or ground wire that is connected to a piece of foil that is wrapped around the inside of the wire. This eliminates most of the hum that may be generated over the wire and is called sheilding. The Burstbucker has a hot and a sheild also, however it is made to look like a vintage pickup and the single wire in the middle is hot and the metal braid around the outside is the sheild. You should connect the wire to the same tang on the volume pot that the old pickup was attached to. The braid should be attached to the back of the pickup.
Q: i just got two new aiwa stereo speaker's they come with their own wiring in the back but i dont know which wire is whatthere is one black wireand there is another black with gray dashesim thinking the one with dashes is positive?the speaker works both ways
I wouldn't worry about polarity too much with those speakers. You're never going to be able to hear a difference, and your amplifier isn't going to care.
Q: Replacing my 3 prong dryer outlet but there is a blk, red, wht, and a bare wire in the box. I know where the colored ones go on the outlet but what do I do with the bare one? I didn't remove the old one so I don't know how the old 3 prong outlet was wired with these wires. Thanks.

Q: Planning a study for my youth group. The name of the series will hopefully be 'Are you wired correctly?'. The basis would be having the right tools and so on to be on fire for God. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
