- Q: I Have an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard with the chipset fan going at over 6000 RPM, an AMD Athlon 64 4000+ with the CPU fan at about 3000 RPM, and a GeForce 6200LE with a very high pitched fan that's dead annoying. To cut a long story short, my PC makes way more noise than it should be, now I don't have any case fans installed but that shouldn't mean that it has to make this sort of howling, believe me, if you were sitting next to it, you'd understand where I'm comin from, it's like tryin to sleep at night with a diesel generator in your room while it's downloading stuff. The fans shouldn't need to spin that fast as the average temp is about 30-40 degrees Celsius across all the components. Anyone know what I should try? Cheers Sam The Bam
- get yourself a better graphics card cos they are the main culprits. and look at your make of fan cos am sure theres better ones out there for the model of pc your using. hope that helped mate.
- Q: A new facility is having a problem with getting power supply, is it safe to run the entire facility (including AC/Ref systems) using a diesel generator? is the power quality guaranteed (considering good quality generator) since that suppliers of AC/Ref systems claimed that this facility would lose the warranty in case of using a generator. - What is an AC/Ref system ? Please define unusual abbreviations. Power quality depends on the specifications of the generator. But I doubt they would be as good as that supplied by the power company. Bottom line, if the suppliers of this equipment say you will lose your warranty, then you will, unless you resort to a lawsuit. .
- Q: Hi. We're off grid and therefore installing a 3 phase Diesel generator. Each phase is rated at 20 Amps continuous(23 Amps max). we want to run 3 Split type ACs, one on each phase, plus some other small appliances.Our problem is that each AC has a start up current of 20 Amps, which will trip the safety circuit on the generator everytime it comes on.The ACs running current is only 8 Amps, but jumps to 20 Amps for a split second everytime the Compressor comes on.Is there a simple way to control the start up current on the ACs? I read something about putting a coil of wire on the input of the Compressor. I tried that with a water pump just to check if it works. The surge current was still there.Any ideas if I can use a Capacitor? If yes, can you tell me what capacity I should use? If you give me the formula I can figure it myself. We run on 220-240 Volts, 50 HZ.Thanks for your answers.
- Is it too late to switch to a 240 volt single phase generator of the same capacity? This would have a 60 amp capability and would handle the surges with no trouble. I don't see how a capacitor will help. If you are stuck with the 3 phase generator, perhaps you can switch the ACs for ones with 3 phase motors. That will spread the surge over the 3 phases. There are also soft-start ACs .

- About 15KW is needed to run a welder. Preferable is a diesel drive unit. Read the label plate on the welder, it will give the maximum draw needed for the supply side. Double that for the generator rating needed.

- Q: I have a Diesel generator using leroy sommers alternator and which uses intelilite MRS 11 controller , it is 380 V , 50 Hz , yesterday i started having problems , after running the genset for like 12 seconds it shuts down and i get two error msgs the first one is : Shutdown Level for Phase 1 under volts the second error msg is : Shutdown Level for Gen voltage Unbalance .in the first 12 seconds the voltage on 3 phases got no problem and after 12 seconds the generator auto shuts down and i cannot seem the find the problem , any help will be appreciated
- As a rule of thumb, the first alarm is the one which triggers the rest, so, concentrate on that one. If you have only one phase with a low voltage alarm, a) there is a short somewhere on that phase. Check the phase currents before shut down. If everything looks ok , probably a generator winding is shorted. b) Check the phase voltages before shut down, if everything looks ok, the relay is faulty, have it checked. -

- Do you really mean as electric source and not as emergency back-up? Diesel would probably be the best choice for fuel economy/reliability. (Since it's not for roadway use, you can probably arrange to buy it untaxed.) For back-up power, you'd have to have a lot of long outages to recover the extra cost of the diesel engine set. For 'Prime power' - 24/7 , you're not going to beat electric utility energy rates even with diesel, as the required size generator for your peak loads will be idling most of the time. (Engine/generators are very fuel-inefficient at low loadings. - With a water-cooled unit, you can capture waste engine heat for house heat in winter though.) If by total electric' you mean heating as well, long term, you'd probably save on fuel if you had a smaller 'back-up' unit to carry the smaller home load when the heating system isn't required.

- Q: I am designing the system to produce electricity for a computer room with 40 PC and 40 LCD screens. The needed power is about 15 KW (20 hp). My system consists of a compressor, a compressed air tank, a turbocharger and a mini gas turbine. I will talk a little bit about the operation: the air is released from the tank and driven by ducting system to turbocharger, at which the air flow is through turbocharger and run turbine to produce electricity. I have searched in internet many times about the turbine but still have no fit one. Can anybody suggest me one? And the turbocharger too if you don't mind. I really need all the details about both of them for calculations.

- Is this generator going to be used in a location which is normally served by grid power. If so is it proposed to use the distribution system normally used when on the grid? If the answer to these questions is yes. The first step is to isolate the normal energy source. This has two purposes. a) to protect your equipment when power is restored and b) to protect people and equipment working on the external circuit. Once this is isolated wire the generator into the circuit (closing isolating switch if hard wired). Start the generator using normal procedures with minimal load in place. Slowly increase load until desired effect is achieved. When external power is returned. Slowly reduce load and isolate generator. Restore normal grid connection. Shut off generator.
