Q:I‘m trying to find 2in ceramic figures (miniature people) Like the ones you find in Christmas villages? Painted or unpainted. I‘d like to try making just a couple. I been on the net and seem to only find expensive already finished figures.: Unfired ceramics or ceramics that are fired but not glazed or painted are called green-ware. They're sold in ceramic hobby shops. You can probably find them in the Yellow Pages under Ceramics.

Q:I am allergic to metal braces and so my ortho suggested ceramic braces but I have a bonding on my front tooth and I‘m really cautious when it comes to my bonding. And I‘ve read that ceramic braces are really hard to remove plus it can be pretty painul and they have to sand it down or something and I told myself don‘t worry about it And my bonding will be fine but when I heard about how it is to remove ceramic braces I‘m worried even more! My ortho says I‘m allergic to metal cause I had braces before and my gums got all swollen but I don‘t even want ceramic anymore and I was thinking about getting Damon braces but aren‘t they metal to?I feel like I don‘t have anymore options! I‘m really upset about this: if your gums got swollen you may be allergic, or you just may have not kept them clean properly. If you are allergic then cermic brackets will help, if you weren't keeping them clean enough then ceramic won't make any differance. Damon brackets are metal and will be the same issue if you are allergic to the metal. Don't worrk about your bonding, it can always be redone if there is a problem and I am sure that once your teeth are straight even if the bonding needs to be redone they will look alot better than they do now. Ceramic brakcets are likely no harder to remove than metal brackets because both use the same cement, which is bonded to the tooth, and then held to the bracket by mechanical retention (dimples in the bracket base). Whenever brackets are removed the bracket comes off and the cement stays stuck on the tooth, the cement is then sanded off the tooth with little to no damage to the tooth

Only warnings include: use in well ventilated areas, do not inhale. ETC Thank you for reading: Not that I am aware of and besides, you could end up using a coating that reacts with the clay. I've seen that before. Better to choose a more decorative use of the clay. Don't forget, fire and polymer clay do not go well together either. Taking too much of a risk.

Q:HiI have some ceramic beads which were used as electric insulaters inside a vacuum coater and as a result are coated by some metals like Ti,.!I used HCl 36% and dipped them for a few hours in it but nothing happaened! any idea?!: Naturally, the reagents required will depend on what metal(s) are in the deposits. If the metal is titanium, as you suggest, then it will take something like a nitric-hydrofluoric acid mixture to do the job. Generally, the mixture would be on the order of concentrated nitric acid 2 parts, hydrofluoric acid 1 part, and water 1 part by volume. NOTE: Although nitric acid has its hazards, the hydrofluoric acid is an especially dangerous and insidious material. It causes severe burns that are not immediately painful and may not be apparent until hours later when it's too late to do much good for them. If you have it available, ammonium bifluoride is a somewhat safer and equally effective alternative to the hydrofluoric acid. Whatever you use, be sure you understand the dangers and use appropriate safety gear. Of course, there's the possibility that the fluorides will also etch your ceramics - it depends on what they are. Good luck with this project. Be sure to try small test samples before going large-scale.

Q:I‘m getting braces in a couple of months time and i was wondering what type of braces are the best. Pros and cons for both appreciated ]]: If I were you I woud metal ones because ceramic ones look really weird, like lumps on your teeth with a wire through them. I like Metal ones because you can change the bands and they just in general to mee look better. For the bands, yellow makes your teeth look yellow, white, clear and I think it was silver stain and look bad. Pastel or light colours fade and look kinda weird. The daker the colour the whiter your teeth look. I haven't had braces but I really want them so I do my stuff :) Ps, I don't know about the ceramic bracket(s) falling off :S
