Q:I bought a wiring harness for my 2001 Ford Focus with a non-blaupunkt factory cassette player. The wiring harness doesn't match up exactly. A reviewer online said his didn't match up either, but still worked. The factory wiring has 7 slots and the one I received has 8. What do you think?Factory wiring on the left, the harness I received on the right:Constant Voltage - Constant VoltageGround - NothingIgnition Voltage - Ignition VoltageConstant Voltage - Illumination/DimmerGround, switched - NothingGround - GroundNot Used - Power AntennaNo Slot Here - Remote Turn onIt's mainly the Constant Voltage - Dimmer connection that worries me.And I know I can just hack up the wiring and skip the harness all together, but I'm trying to keep it simple and neat for the next guy/gal (which may be me for all I know). What do you think? Thanks in advance.

Q:The wire in my headphones broke right next to the jack plug. I had a pair of crappy earphones that I have cut up as a replacement jack plug but no matter what I do I cant get any response. Is it because headphone wires are not compatible with earphone wires?Thank you
Copper wire is copper wire. The headphones have other issues, or you're not connecting the wires properly.
Q:I bought a bathroom fan timer and tried to install it. It has four wires and the wall switch circuit has only 3 wires. What do I do?
sounds like you have one wire short in the box. you need to power the timer. which means you have to use your ground wire for the neutral wire. and this means you have no proper ground. so wire it like this old black to black old white to red old green to new white and to box new green to box. to do it properly you need a 4 wire cable coming into the box and going to the power source or to where there is a proper neutral wire. the thing is the timer wants full power going to it complete with a ground circuit. the switch before it was just that a switch which interrupted the power on one side of the fan so all it needed was 2 wires and the ground to be properly wired
Q:i have an amp (sony xm 2002gtr) that says it requires 4 gauge wire..but they cost $100+ and i have plenty of 8 gauge wires. can i use two 8 gauge wires as a substitute for one 4 gauge wire?and also, i have my capacitor grounded to unpainted metal of my car AND the ground port of my amp..is that incorrect?
Two 8-gauge wires combined are equal to a 5-gauge wire, but that should be close enough for that amp. Make sure each wire has its own fuse near the battery; 40-amp fuses would be a good choice. If you capacitor is connected to ground, and your amp is grounded, then you don't really need a wire between the capacitor's ground terminal and the amp's ground terminal. It doesn't hurt anything, though. If the only ground wire at the amp is the one that runs to the capacitor, then you're better off connecting the amp ground directly to chassis metal.
Q:I currently have a ceiling fan wired to a dimmer wall switch that controls the fan and the light, not good I know. I would like to set up the dimmer switch where it controls the light only and then i can use the fan pull switch for the fan. but i am not sure how to wire this with my current wires. In the wall box where the dimmer switch is I have two sets of wires coming from two different locations. one set has a black, red, white, and green. the other location has black, white and copper. currently the green and copper are connected and capped, the two whites are connected together and capped, two blacks are and connected to the black wire coming from the dimmer and the red is connected to the other black wire from the dimmer. how would I wire the dimmer switch to only control the light and not the fan? I want to make sure i do this safely.any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Ok, leave the copper and green wires alone as well as the white wires. Now the red and black coming from the same set should be your fan/light switch legs with red being light and black for fan itself. You may have to go into the fan ceiling box itself as it sounds the fan and light kit are connected to red wire in ceiling box especiallly if dimmer switch is controlling both. The other blacks are power legs. If both wires from fan/light are tied in with red wire, seperate them and connect the blue wire from light kit to red and cap off. With switch off, connect black wire from fan to those black wires that are capped off in box. If this isnt right connections, contact me via my email address on profile
Q:trying to find the radio wiring diagram for my suburban to find out where all my speaker wires are .

Q:Has anyone ever used welding wire in their car audio setup? Is it more flexible or less than other car power wire? Is this a big problem? Is it a good or bad jacket?Would you use it again?I am looking at buying some welding wire from weldingsupply because it is .81 per foot. I would love to know if anyone has done this before and what they thought. The wire i am looking at is 4 gague.
First off- it is cheaper than audio power wire, you can buy it as thick as 3 ought, I've seen it used. But flexibility is a big deal when hiding power wire, at least I think so, and welding wire is not the most flexible but it is better than solid wire, and power currant runs faster through audio power wire because of the small cooper strands that make up the wire. Than in welding wire because it has thicker and not as many strands that make up the wire, currant will run slower. Will any wire work? yes........ go to a smaller local audio dealer and ask the owner for info
Q:Where is itI have a 1996 Honda Accord with a pioneer deh-p6400 head unit. I tried to install an amp. Held the ground to soem metal and tried to get it to turn on. I tried the power antennae wire and it didnt' work. Nothing seems to work. I dont want to splice any wires or anything
hes right....all u have to do is continue the blue/white wire to the remote spot of the amp.
Q:Phone wire outside was old is anybody done that, do it your self put a new wire on?, Just curious to know..
anything after the demarcation (demarc) is your problem, anything on the telco side of the demarc is the local telco's problem. on your side, you can basically do what ever you want, but if you do it wrong, the telco has the right and OBLIGATION to disconnect your service. There are many sites on the internet that can instruct you in the Bell Standard Practice to wire your own phones. Just maintain the BSP and all will be right with the world.
Q:My house is currently wired using Cat-5 lines. If I were to replace the Cat-5 wiring with Cat-6 wiring, would I see an increase in my DSL speed?
If you have a proper install of Cat-5 lines, then you probably won't see any improvement by upgrading the lines. Of course, if you question the quality of the old install - maybe frayed cables, maybe the ends are stripped too far back - mayby the lines run right against your AC power lines... Then a proper install of Cat6 (or anything comparable) will help improve speed inside your house. Things to keep in mind: - like another poster said; most DSL service doesn't even come close to the 100MB rating of Cat5. Cat5e and Cat6 are -theoretically- faster, but you can't make the bits move any faster than what your ISP gives you. - If you had an older install of Cat5, the installer might only be using 2 pairs of the 4 pairs of copper wire. Newer stuff, Cat5e and Cat6 require using all 8 conductors ( 4 pairs). If your old wiring was splitting off telephone service using the 'spares' - then you will need extra wiring to do this right. the comment about Cat# = # of twists per inch is not correct, either. the standard says something like.. Cat3 has about 3-4 twists per foot, Cat5 has about 3-4 twists per inch. Cat5e adds more twists, and requires all conductors. Cat6 more twists, and still all conductors. Cat7 proposal will have more twists, and braided shielding.
