Q: i recently replaced my spark plug wires on my 97' lincoln continental. i was wondering if i should get plug wire shielding for them also......thanx: If it needed wire shielding it would have come with it from the factory. If you get OEM style plug wires then it will come with shielding as well, hence OEM, if not then it didn't come with them and doesn't need them.

Q: I need to use quot;insulated copper wireor quot;enamel covered copper wirefor a project...I used normal copper wire and obviously it failed. Can this be like normal copper wire with plastic/rubber coating around it, similar to electrical wire? Or is it something special?: Enamel covered usually means magnet wire, the enamel insulation is super thin, all but invisible, this is used for making very tight windings where the packing of the windings produces strong magnetic fields, or strong emf response to changes in magnetic field, and the voltage difference between adjacent windings is low enough to allow this type of wire. There are sources for magnet wire on the internet, and Radio Shack sells Three Packs of 3 commonly used gauges of magnet wire.

Q: have black (hot) and 2 whites from the house. Got Black,green.blue.and white from the fan. Any clues on how to wire this? There is a light switch involved. I know to match the colors but what do with the blue (light) wire is beyond me.: The blue wire is the supply connection for the fan motor, simply connect this wire to your homes black wire. ( blue and black from fan) to the black wire in the box. Splice the two neutral ( white ) wires together. If you plan on using a dimmer switch use one with motor control. You will have two switches if one of the white wires in your box is a switch leg, if there is two switches, make sure you separate the wires in the ceiling box, place a marrett on each individual one for safely, turn the switches on remove one marrett a time test with a multimeter white to ground to identify you hot and neutral

Q: On a seat switch on a poulan mower it has three wires are two of them grounds or one.: One wire comes in hot and goes out hot to the next switch in the series of safety switches this is known as the switched pair, and the other wire is the ground, get a ohm meter and see which wires are paired by pushing the switch while in ohm mode when the meter reads 0 ohms when the switch is pushed those are the switched wires.

Q: Ceiling light junction box has 2 wires (black and white on both). One of the two is hot (always juiced). The other of the two travels down the wall to the switch junction box, and this is the only wire in this junction box. When I connect the two blacks and the two whites of the ceiling junction box, the switch wires become juiced. But when I try to hook up a switch to those switch wires, the switch doesn't cut the power to the ceiling junction box when I flip the switch on and off. Why?? -very frustrated.: The light fixture junction box should not have an always hot wire in it. The switch box should have the always hot wire and a neutral wire. The switch may be wired wrong by being located on the neutral wire instead of the hot wire. Even if this were the case the light switch would still turn the light on and off so something else is also possibly wrong. You may have a system where the hot wire for the switch goes through the ceiling box(the magic word is through) to the switch box. You have to trace the hot wire backwards. Good luck!

Q: i have a 1995 chevy S10 blazer and i noticed that it has 5? speakers in the door and 6x9 in the back i started looking and i found that it has 4x6 in the dash with cardboard over it but it don't have speaker wire ran for it i think its going to be difficult running wire for it but what gauge of wire should i use? and should i run the speaker wire to the head unit how would i hook the speaker wire to the aftermarket head unit or should i run it to the 6x9 or 5? i already have a pair of 4x6's ready to be installed in it as soon as i find out how to do it and what size of speaker wire it is im going to be doing it by myself: common speaker wire will work fine. as for running new wires to the dash. i have found that if you cut the hook off a metal coathanger and bend one end 6 inches from the end, you can tire the speaker wire to the bend and thread it thru. it just takes a little patience. i would wire them to the door speakers.

Q: Hey can some1 help me, on my lamp i have a White, a Yellow wire with tints of green in it and a black wire. on my cord that i am going to plug in is a Blue, brown and a yellow wire: Run a continunity check on the cord from the brown and blue wires to the blades on the plug. The brown should go to the wider blade, but could be other way around. Then the yellow wires go together. The one (brown or blue) from the wider blade goes to the black one from the lamp. The other one goes to the white wire.

Q: My home is wired for the thermostats with two wires (red and white). I have acquired a new thermostat that requires a Red, White, and Common wire. Using the white wire in that position will power the unit up but it won't trigger the heat. Is there something that can be put in line that will allow this thermostat to work without rewiring the house?: T-stat wires are usually left loose in the wall, no staples, so you can easily replace it by pulling a new wire through with the old one. First try to get an idea of where the wire goes. Get an estimate of total length and go to home depot and purchase 18-3 t-stat wire. They sell it in 25 feet, 50 feet, 100 feet, 500 feet, or by the foot. Compare prices and get enough to make a continuous run. Older 2 wire Tstats used a mercury or spring switch to simply connect the two wires together (24v + and sl return). Your new Tstat needs a common because it is being powered by the same feed that activates the unit. (So you have 24+ 24- and sl return) When you attach your new wire to your old wire be sure to actually strip the outer coating of about 4 inches or so and fold the wires around each other to get a good strong bond, and then tape it tight to keep it as small diameter as possible.
