Q:For my science project, need about 3 feet of copper wire...approx how much will that cost me? I want the wires to be pretty thin :)
no. romex, household wiring, can be as little as $0.57/ft and i bett you don't really need 3 wire, 8 gauge romex for your project...
Q:I've had my subs wired up for a while but want to see if there is a more efficient way to do it. Hardware: Sony Xplod 800w amp bridgeable amp - What's the best way to wire these up to get the most volume?
wire the voice coils to series on each sub and then wire the subs in parallel to the amp and voila.
Q:My light switch has three sets of three wires (like conduit).. there are three black wires, three white wires, and three bare wires.. and I don't know how to hook up another light switch because it's near impossible to get three wires around a screw terminal. My boyfriend (works in maintenance) hooked a light switch up (one that you put the wires in a hole and then screw) except for the bare wire where two wires are under the screw terminal and the third is wrapped around the other two bare wires. The lights will stay on but when you turn the switch off, it kicks the breaker.. can anyone tell me why it's doing that? Thank you.
What it sounds like is happening there is that the switch box is the main feed for the room. You have a set from the panel, a set for the light fixture, and a set that are downstream, such as for an outlet. You need to determine which set is which. Then cut a piece of black wire and a bare copper about 8 long. This is how the connections are made: TURN THE POWER OFF. Then connect all of the whites together with a wire nut. Connect the new bare copper to the other grounds with another wire nut. Then connect the black from the panel, the downstream black, and the short black together with another wire nut. The black to the light fixture and the black pigtail (short wire) connect to the 2 brass terminals on the switch. The bare copper pigtail goes on the green screw on the switch. Reinstall the switch in the box, turn the power on, and check your work. If the light stays on at all times, but the outlets only work when the switch is on, those 2 wires are reversed. Turn the power off, switch the wires, and you should be good to go. Hope this helps.
Q:What's the difference between stainless steel wire and steel wire?
The stainless steel spring wire is usually hard, and it is cold drawn with larger wire diameter difference. Stainless steel bright wire is usually medium hard, it is normal cold drawing and cold drawing. Light drawing of stainless steel is usually in soft medium, which is cold drawing with smaller line diameter difference. The stainless steel wire is usually soft, which is annealed by hydrogen pipe after drawing, and the product has a roof shape after annealing.
Q:Its the wire that goes up to the antenna, its flat, and . brown in colormaybe their is a tool that can be purched
Maybe but you can just use a sharp knife. Take your time because the wires cut easy too.
Q:what is the best speaker wire for some subwoofers that are rated between 500rms watts to 750rms watts
well, the length the wire will be is also a factor, but for that power, either 2 or 4 gauge wire would be the best...
Q:In MA. What type of wiring should I use, and do I need any type of protection for the wire.
I would use simple 12-18 Volt (low voltage) garden path lighting with a focused beam spotlight. You won't need to protect the wiring if you do that. If you use 110-120 Volt wiring, you're going to need to bury conduit to protect the wiring. The low voltage stuff is alot easier.
Q:alright, 5 speakers with 4ohm svc, what would my wiring options be?
With 5 speakers there won't be a symmetral wiring pattern for even power distribution. With 4 it would be 2 pair in parallel with both sets in series for a 4 ohm final load or all 4 in parallel for a 1 ohm final load.
Q:i am installing a headunit, i connected all the wires the match, but i have some left over that i am confused about. from the wires that plug into the radio there is the antenna wire, the remote wire, and the ground with a washer to screw it down, and from the other is set of wires is a solid orange wire, which i have no idea where it goes to. so i connected the remote to the orange wire and didn't hook up the antenna to anything, and bolted down the ground wire. I'm wondering why i have 2 ground wires, and what the orange wire is and what do i connect to it?
The orange wire may be an illumination wire that controls the illumination or brightness of the head unit's lights when the car's headlights are turned on. You have two grounds because one is a chassis ground used to ground the metal frame on your head unit to the car's ground. Your head unit may or may not have an input for the illumination wire, in which case you need to remove it. I would also ground the head unit's frame using the second ground wire. Try looking online for the pinouts for your particular car's factory head unit. This will take the guesswork out of the install.
Q:when i wire these together the light stays on. help
Should be a switch somewhere, if not you would need to install one.
