Q: My rug has been shedding and I have vacuumed it 100's of times and steam cleaned it. Is there anything I can do to stop the shedding? It is positively driving me CRAZY!! Any suggestions PLEASE: sounds like a bad buy have you tried taking it outside and combing it with a fine comb? Then follow up with a hoover. If this doesn't work......

Q: I have a couple of very expensive rugs that I need cleaned. Just dont want to trust them to anybody that may not know to do them right. Anybody know of a professional that does this: Either a carpet cleaning business who specializes in cleaning rugs or a company that only cleans rugs. Just make sure they are certified to clean specialty rugs or they could damage them.

Q: Okay, so I'm being cheap! However, I saw these really cute pink shag area rugs on sale at Target this week. I need it to be larger than the 5 x 8, so I was thinking of somehow binding the two so I would have a 10 x 16. Does anyone know if this is possible? I don't want to use anything too gooey to join them because the rug will be going over hardwood floors. Let's hear some creative practical solutions that will work please!: You could probably sew them together with rug yarn that you can get in a craft store. Depending on what the backing of the rugs are made of, this might be difficult OR, they have iron on tape that is made just for rugs. I've never seen it in the stores but I've never really looked for it either. I did see them use it on a show on HGTV. You lay the rugs face down with the joining edges against each other on the floor, place the tape evenly along the edges you want to connect, and press with a hot iron. When the joined rugs cool, turn the piece over and comb back and forth with your fingers to hide any of the new seam that night be showing.

Q: Can I use hydrogen peroxide for my carpet cleaning machine to clean the carpet?: Hydrogen Peroxide that comes in the light proof brown plastic bottle, is 3%. It will do no harm as an additive for sanitation purposes, but may not be effective in breaking down dirt,soil, cooking oil particles, found in the carpet. Professional carpet cleaners who use the hot water carpet cleaning process, will use a 12% version to treat obvious pet urine stains. Taxidermists, I'm told, use a 20% version to soak animal skulls in to remove every thing from the bone. Use only 50% per cent of the recommended soap, as these toy machines are famous for leaving a sticky soap residue in the carpet that later will attract soil/dirt/dust to the traffic areas of the carpet. Professional carpet cleaners use citric acid products to help remove soap pre sprays from the carpet, to freshen it, and also to lower the PH of the carpet to a neutral level. If your carpet is seriously soiled and hasn't been cleaned for over a year, consider hiring a professional hot water carpet cleaner. Good Luck.

Q: Our living room carpets really stained, and no matter what we use to clean it...It doesnt work. Even if professionals do it it looks like nothing helped. Any suggestions on gettin it clean?: umm new carpets arent that expensive and i would get a stain master carpet and rent a carpet cleaner once every three months.

Q: I noticed that my carpet has holes in it. there are tiny areas where the carpet strands are gone/eaten/disappeared/burned/etc and i don't know what it is. Also, around the area it is black or has black stuff left on the carpet (light brown carpet color). Any ideas as to what it is? How to stop it? Fix it? [also the only pets i have are fish]: there's a few things that live in carpets or breed there. but moths are the ones that are famous for holes. the larvae eat the rug then become moths. If you're lucky a little flea spray and the worms will come up so you can see them. start using boric acid or diatomaceous earth (buy the kind for this use not the pool filter material). sprinkle on carpet and brush deep with broom. Vacuum more regularly and put down more boric acid every few months at least.
