Q:I have a 1994 Plymoth Grand voyager and it is loosing anti freeze it was a little leak now I can't see it leaking but it is empty could it be the water pump? It does get hot now. what other things happen when your water pump is going out does the heater not get hot anymore?

Q:We had a thunderstorm followed by power outage last night, this morning I went to use the water and it slowly went dead.I began by inspecting the pressure tank and pressure control switch, then found the outside water pump breaker was tripped, upon resetting the water was back on!But wait, after about 1-2 minutes of use there was a small quot;POPand smoke from the control switch and the breaker tripped again. It seems now that every time the water pump kicks in I've got a 50/50 shot of the circuit breaker blowing. I'm not sure what to do now, I don't want to keep resetting my pump breaker, we really didn't get that much rain so I don't know what would be causing this issue?Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thanks!

Q:My 1998 Dodge Dakota V6 heater only gets warm, I have replaced the thermostat. I have back flushed the heater core. The heater hose coming from near the thermostat gets hot, but the hose coming from the heater core going to the water pump only gets warm. The large hose coming from the thermostat is hot near the engine, but is only warm near the radiator. Is the water pump bad? If I open the radiator cap there is no signs of circulation. to answer your question directly, you can check a water pump the same on any car. water pumps have whats called a weep hole there is a small hole that is designed to leak coolant when your water pump seal goes out. find the pump and see if there is a trail of white from this 'weep hole' then yes your pump is bad. if not, i dont know the layout of the hoses for your car so i couldnt diagnose it for sure. but check your water pump for the signs i gave you. its a tell tale sign

Q:My well water pump runs constantly. The manual says it should kick off at 50 psi, it only gets to 48 (moves to 45 rather quickly, slow to 48). Water isn't an issue. Turned off all water to house, and still gets to 48, so I believe I can exclude leak somewhere in the house.One place I called said it could be a bit of grit in the jet pump when I called. This seems like it could cost big bucks. Could I suggest for the service man to check anything else?

the only way to check it is to have a well pump service pull the pump and check the verticle lines. they tend to rust out. you can have them replaced by pvc lines now. when our pump went out we had all of the lines replaced because several of the galvanized lines had pin holes in them

Those are widely used where hand or bicycle or animal power is common. It meets all your criteria except pressure. Depending on how much pressure you want/need a stand pipe or elevated tank might meet that requirement. If pressure is necessary, then go with a Double Acting Piston Pump and filter the suction. I recommend a Graded Sand Bed over the suction. I designed public water supply pumping stations drawing from rivers for years. Filtering the suction is no big deal.
