Q: has ne one ever thought abt or seen a stand alone affordable power generation unit cheaper than normal power supply on running costs(even if higher one time costs) .I am in india.but ne info is welcome. My idea is abt an INDIVIDUAL HOUSE OWNER NEEDS

Q: I know with cars there is a blue book but how does it work for a generator? We have an 80kw Kholer Diesel generator with 1,050 hrs on it and it's 13 years old. It gets regular maintenance and is in great shape. I've been looking online but can't seem to figure out how much it's worth.
$8,000-$15,000 depending on the exact model and much more information. Generators have as many options as cars, and that is why the prices vary.
Q: I am wondering did water go over these reactors, and if they did is that what caused the problems, and if not, what in fact really happened?Could the devastation have been worse if water washed over it?
It probably helped with the overall catastrophe. It wasn't the tsunami, or the earthquake that caused the problems. It was during , and after the shut down procedure of the reactors, they had explosions and loss of power, backup generators, and eventually battery power that there having to deal with. Overheating big-time.
Q: I thought I had found a great place to rent but after reading reviews I found out they charge extra rent monthly for pets and the noise is bad being next to the AFB. Additionally some residents complained that their electric bills were 800 a month. I expected high, but that seems higher than anything else I have read by other people who live there. Can anyone give me an idea of where would be ideal to look for rentals? I have a middle school and a high school aged kids and two small pets. I don't want to live in a dump and our rental budget is about 2000 a month. Any advice regarding location is greatly appreciated!
What part of the island will offer the lowest electric bills? Your funny, there is no part unless its some where you don't have any electric power.
Q: I will put this generator to power my automated vehicle which have sensors, servo for the steering, motor for the rotation of the rear shaft, laptop for camera vision etc.
A battery powered wheel chair has everything you need. You can buy an old one cheap and fix it up to work as your automated vehicle. Use Lithium Ion batteries for maximum power or one of the new AGM car batteries that provide deep discharge operation.
Q: Hello im going to be a mechanic and i will have a 1998 turbo diesel H1 Hummer. Now I wanted to know since the hummer is not like a bus or a really heavy Diesel equipment that i can work on it myself like a regular car or do i have to have to be a diesel mechanic to even work on it?
Diesel engines are very similar to gasoline engines. If you have the technical knowledge to work on gasoline engines then the same principles applies to diesel engines as well. I know this is true because I took the course for auto/diesel automotive technician certification. I rebuilt them both along with carburetors, transmissions, starters, alternators, and generators. The only difference I can recall are that the diesel engines required more or less air than the gasoline engines. Of course diesel fuels burns much slower than gasoline. Therefore diesel engines might have additional mechanisms to produce or reduce the quantity of air. That is all.
Q: i need to do a project and i need a website that has info on why solar panels are more enviromentally friendly can you please give me some websites?
What are the environmental benefits of photovoltaics? Because they burn no fuel and have no moving parts, PV systems are clean and silent. This is especially important where the main alternatives for obtaining power and light are from diesel generators and kerosene lanterns. As we become more aware of greenhouse gases and their detrimental effects on our planet, clean energy alternatives like PV become more important than ever. The burning of fossil fuels degrades our environment. It even is managing to change the climate of the Earth itself. The supply of these fossil fuels is finite. Just, in the last century, humans have consumed nearly half of all of the oil that will ever be produced. Consider this in the context of 5000 years of human history. The hidden costs are immense, including tax breaks for fossil fuel companies, increased health costs, the long-term costs of climate change. Rising fossil fuel consumption (releasing carbon emissions) was once favorably looked upon as a measure of economic growth and development. Carbon emissions, estimated at 93 million tons in 1860, jumped to 525 million tons by 1900, and to 1.62 billion tons by 1950. At the end of 1994, the atmosphere contained 4 billion more tons of carbon than just 12 months earlier. Violent weather cost the world a record $130 Billion in the first eleven months of 1998- more money than was lost from weather related disasters from 1980 to 1990 ($82 Billion). Researchers from the Worldwatch Institute and Munich Re blame deforestation and climate change from Earth warming for much of the loss. The previous one year record was $90 Billion in 1996. Source – Associated Press, November 28,1998. Using solar energy instead of fossil fuels to meet some of our energy needs reduces emissions of greenhouse gases and other pollutants. When solar energy displaces other energy sources with higher emissions levels, it produces a benefit in the form of reduced emissions of pollutants.
Q: 400 kva perkins 2300perkins 1106
A Diesel generator uses whatever fuel it requires to supply the load being used, plus the efficiency factor. This is controlled by the governor of the engine. If no load, it only uses that fuel required to keep it turning. (Not good for the engine). The rating of a generator is the max the engine can deliver at 100% performance. As the engine gets older, or even WORSE, not maintained. performance (output) drops.
Q: I am looking into using solar energy and generators for commercial use. Using the solar energy during the day is a piece of cake obviously. But I would need a backup generator for night-time use. If I were to get a commercial grade backup generator, could I essentially recharge it during the day while it is not in use? Any other suggestions that this route are welcome. Maybe even a backup storage (battery) for the the excess solar energy. Something to store the unused energy?
if you are using a classical gas or diesel powered generator there would be no need for recharging obviously if you are using a bank of batteries and a inverter to convert the DC voltage to AC, then you would need to size your solar power system large enough to both run your home and charge up the batteries so enough power would be stored for night time use and seasonal adjustments.
Q: I want to build a diesel engine driven generator. The type of gen I have is asynchron, 400/690 V, 7,5 kW, 9,4 kVA and I was told that I need to stimulate it with capacitors (the unit is supposed to work without connection to a public netstand-aloneisland-service). Who can give me instructions how to do the el. part, size/type of capacitors etc?
Because it lacks a separate field circuit, an induction generator cannot produce reactive power. In fact, it consumes reactive power, and an external source of reactive power must be connected to it at all times [1]. So you are right that you will need a three-phase capacitor bank at the output terminals (delta-connected). How to size the capacitors? That depends on a few things. Namely what kind of loads are going to be attached to it. I presume this is going to be an emergency generator operating alone (most induction generators are used this way nowadays). In that case, your capacitor bank will need to account for the generator consuming reactive power and the loads consuming reactive power. So, if you know what you are going to connect to the generator, figure up an estimate of the total reactive power of your loads. Then estimate how much reactive power your generator consumes (not sure how to do this; maybe estimate from your 7.5kW and 9.4kVA ratings?). Finally, to size your capacitors equate the total power consumed by gen and loads to this formula: estimated_3phase_power_consumed 3*(line-to-line_volt)^2/X where X 1/(2*pi*freq*C) Solve for C and there you go. My source indicates that the output voltage for an induction generator can vary quite a bit with varying inductive load, so bear that in mind and maybe oversize the caps a bit. Also, the types of capacitors should be able to withstand AC obviously and be rated within your expected operating temp, etc, etc. Good luck.
