- Q: I spilled Coca-cola on my area rug. The rug is relatively inexpensive and I've never spilled liquid on it. I decided it would be a brilliant idea to sop up as much liquid as I could with a towel and paper towels and then pour baking soda all over it, which I then proceeded to rub in. (I know, idiotic). The stain is now hard and crusty and I cant seem to vacuum it out. Any advice?
- Not all is lost. Break up the crusties as much as possible and vacuum, probably just use the hose, not the various heads. Keep doing this until you'd removed as much as possible. If you have a clothes brush, use that to help as you vacuum. When you've done as much as you can, time to switch methods: first put a towel, shower curtain or whatever under your throw rug as you don't want to ruin the floor under neath.......if vinyl.......relax. Anyway. Make a solution of OxyClean.....I'd say a scoop to a quart of warm water.....mix well and then apply it to the stain.........if your carpet doesn't have latex on the back and you can move it to the tub.....pour the Oxyclean over the stain. Otherwise pour a bit on.......1/4 cup or so, rub with your fingers and immediately begin blotting it out with a clean towel......white or light colored just in case you get a color run from the towel. Repeat applying and blotting it up. That should do it. I doubt you'll need the whole quart. OH yes, finish with a clear water rinse and plenty of blotting. Check the towel or whatever underneath and replace it if wet. Let the rug air dry. No hair dryers as heat will set stains. Of course we hope like anything the OxyClean doesn't remove the color from your rug.....if you have bright colors.....use a weaker solution. OxyClean ihydrogenen peroxide which will bleach colors if in a very concentrated formula which it in the in the original mixture I mentioned.

- Q: Whats the best cleaner/chemical to get blood stains out of a rug? I was working on something in the trunk of my BMW 325i and i cut my finger. But the pool of blood wont come out of the carpet no matter what i try. Someone told me to try using milk but that didnt work either. I have to bring my car to get inspected and i need to get the stain out beforehand...Any suggestions?
- Hydrogen Peroxide will remove blood without damaging the rug. Just pour it on the stain, and blot to remove the blood. Repeat this as many times as it takes. You can also get a product called OUT! to remove the blood stain. It is found in the pet aisle. It will remove the blood stain, feces, urine and vomit (human and animal alike) as well as the odors from protein based stains and soils. It is an enzymatic cleaner that will not harm your rug. - The primary reason for putting a rug on a horse is to keep them warm over night. If it is winter, a rug is definitely recommended when stalling over night, as movement is restricted and therefor so is the heat being produced. A lot of people will rug a horse over night if they are bathing for a show. A lot of people don't want to bath the day of the show, and so they bath the night before and rug to keep the horse clean if they choose to lay down. Rugs are also used if a horse had a hard workout in the evening, again to keep them warm over night. Once the sweat cools and dries, the horse may get a chill without a rug, although it's not a huge concern unless the horse had a really hard workout and sweat really hard. I tend to use a rug at night if there are a lot of flies in the barn. It keeps them off without having to use gallon after gallon of fly spray. I also use a rug as just an extra layer of padding, so to speak. I give the stall a look over of course and remove sharp or pointy objects, however if a potentially dangerous object has been missed, the rug will provide a little added protection, and it will rip before your horse's skin. - Q: Most of the powder carpet freshners have so much perfume in them they trigger a migraine and I can't use them. Not to mention they are pretty pricey for what you actually get. Is plain ole' Arm Hammer baking soda a good alternative? Any other suggestions for freshing carpet?
- Plain ole' Arm Hammer baking soda is the best! Sprinkle it on and let it set for at least a couple of hours and overnight would be great. Then vacuum well.....................Good Luck!

- Don't bleach it. I tried that on a very light carpet once and it did not even come close to matching the rest of the carpet. And if you were going to do the entire carpet, I think the fumes could be toxic. I have heard of dying it though so I know it is possible.

- I was able to get gum (and many other stains) out of my carpet using Valspar Goof Off. Miracle product.
