Q:throw rug: backing dried up and crumbled; any way to rehab the rug?
The only thing you can do is buy that non-slip stuff they sell to keep rugs from moving on the floor, and lay the rug down on that. But when you go to wash the rug, all that stuff will still crumble and fall off into your washing machine.
Q:soap or a regular carpet cleaner
depends on the stain. I like carpet cleaner personally. If your whole carpet is dirty, those rug doctors you can rent at the grocery store are actually amazing. I rented one and couldn't believe how well it cleaned. I also rented the upholstery attachment and cleaned my white couch and the interior of my truck. It was totally worth the $25 for 24 hours. I didn't bother buying all the soaps and stuff they sell with it, just some steam cleaner detergent and a little fabric softener in the other tank instead of the suds reducer they push on you. Good luck. Of, if it's an animal stain you can buy enzymatic cleaner that will actually take care of the stain and the smell.....
Q:I have an area rug that my poodle urinates on when she's mad at me. Long story short she did it again while I was out and I didn't find it until it was dry and smelling up my apartment. Does anyone have tips on how to clean the rug myself without renting a shampooer and maybe how to deodorize the rug. I've tried fabreese and the baking soda stuff you leave on the carpet and vacuum up later. they didn't seem to work before so If anyone has anything else to suggest I'd be most grateful. Thanks
When we have an area rug that needs cleaning we take it up to our local self service car wash. The high powered washers work really well cleaning and rinsing the rugs. We usually just hang them over the clothes line to let them drip dry and they look like new.
Q:I am just wondering in the 30's 40'5 and 50's how they cleaned carpets in there house. I know at some point the vacuum cleaner was invented but for actual carpet cleaning (with a carpet cleaner) how did they clean the carpet. I am not talking about spot cleaning either but all over carpet cleanings. Thankss

Q:I don't have the cash to rent a rug doctor. I have a large white rug in my living room and I guess from walking around the house with no socks on, there is a 2'x6' area that is darker than the rest, along with a few stains from spilled drinks.I have a bottle of some carpet cleaning foam with a cheap scrubber on the end but it's just too small to cover that large of an area.So I'm thinking a bucket and a rag might be the best option. I have since bought a small bathroom size mat over the area my feet go on but I'd like to clean it still. So maybe a bucket of warm water with a dab of dishwashing liquid detergent? Or some baking soda?I also don't want to get so many suds in there to where I have to keep scrubbing with a rag and water only 5-10 times to get all the cleanser out.Any ideas?
If okorder . Carpeting is an expensive investment, you should take care of it. Dishwashing soap normally is colored, these dyes can redye your carpet if you administer it in the cleaning process. Use only clear or white dish soap if you are bold enough to try this your self. The bottom of your socks is probably where the dirt is coming from. Keep a pair of slippers available, preferably without black hard foam soles, and wear them inside the home.
Q:We're moving into an 850-sqft place with all hardwood floors. We are thinking about putting in either rugs or carpet for the WHOLE PLACE (except bathroom and kitchen) because we have a 1 year old who could really use the extra cushion. Which is more cost-efficient? Where can I get quality rugs/carpet at a bargain?
Rugs would be the MOST cost efficient. The more WOOD you leave exposed the more cleanly your place will be for the little one. You need to look for companies in the area that you live in for the best place to purchase.
Q:I have burned holes in my rug that need repaired. I have a piece of the same rug. Can this be repaired eaisly.....or best to call repair service.
Cut a square piece of the rug out. Take an old pair of jeans. Cut out a square 1 bigger on all sides as the cut square of the rug. Use Elmers glue and glue the jeans square to the subflooring then put glue on the top of the square. Cut a piece of the carpet from the piece that you have the same size as the first square you cut out. Place it on top of the blue jeans square and press down to make sure it is totally catching the glue. Voila!
Q:i accidentally spilled my nail polish on my carpet last night!! does anyone know of any tricks to take it out???
Nail polish remover or rubbing alcohol, be sure to dab the stain don't rub because it will spread the stain. Good Luck! :)
Q:My light colored carpets have left over soap stains from when a cleanser was used to remove pet stains. Now there are white stains on my carpets. I have tried filling a carpet cleaner with hot water and going over the stains with that but that seems to have just spread the left over soap stain. HELP! How do I remove these stains for good?
What did you use for a cleanser? If you used a product designed for laundry use, you may have damaged the carpet dyes permanently. If not and it is just plain soap, do what you do when you put shampoo in your hair, you rinse it out. Leaving soap ,from spotting stains, will attract dirt/soil because the residue becomes sticky and acts like a dirt magnet. For around $30.00 you can purchase a shop vac, small one of course, that will vacuum water. Rinse and suck, rinse and suck, numerous times on these spots, to remove the soapy residue. Dry with a terry cloth towel and a fan. (BOX TYPE) If you continue to allow a leaking pet on your carpet, you will be working on stains from urine for the rest of you life. If you would like further advice for removing urine from the carpeting, come back with a new question. See you
Q:Im deciding whether to get a wooden floor in my room or a carpet. I already have a carpet and it is really old and smells bad. Lol. What should I get? And why?
With a wood floor you can get a rug to put near your bed so you don't have to step on the cold floor and you can switch rugs easily. It's easier to clean as well. My carpet is old but doesn't smell, and I do like it, but I would probably pick hardwood floor if I had to choose. It's just easier to decorate.
