If nothing else, could I cut out a piece of fabric matching the decal and put it underneath the blanket with the decal on top of the blanket (like a sandwich) so that the glue has something to grab onto through the holes? - I don't think that would work very well because of the stretch of the crocheting (and the lack of stretch of the decal) unless the decal were quite smallYou'd also have trouble adhering the decal because you'd be adhering it to fewer spots, and also a lot of crochet yarn is synthetic so could begin to melt and flatten if too much heat is applied (natural fabrics and yarns made from cotton or wool can take higher heats than synthetics)Even if you could adhere the decal well enough, it would still look kind of funky because it would be bumpy like the crochetingIf you really want to put a Winnie the Pooh or other image onto a crocheted or knitted blanket, I'd suggest doing an applique (sewing around the edges of an image/etc) -either by purchasing a fabric panel with a WTP image on it and appliqueing that onto the blanket, or by creating the applique in the usual way with smaller pieces to make up the whole WTPYou could perhaps also applique the decal itself if it were sewableYou could also just make a simple quilt next time and use the decal or fabric panel, etc., or you could make a sandwich from the WTP fabric or decal plus a backing fabric and a thin batting between them, then put your crocheting all around the sides of that central motif (there are ways to do that, but you'd have to look them up).
