Q: Last night we found our basement carpet soaked after a rainstorm---there was not standing water (until we pulled up the carpet and padding), but it was set enough to squish when you walk, etc. We pulled up the carpet and threw away the padding. We've been trying to dry it out with a fan, but it doesn't seem to be helping. What steps should we take to save the carpet? We really can't afford to replace it right now. Also, we live in Colorado, and there is almost no humidity. Thanks!
You may have to rent a real fan, one that is made for flood restoration
Q: How to deal with the chewing gum on the hotel guest room carpet
stir up the carpet, apply edible oil in the back of the place with gum coated , after a few minutes the chewing gum can be taken down, and then thoroughly clean grease on the carpet.
Q: Hi everyone. I have a problem with my carpets. I recently bought a very nice, thin carpet. It is very detailed, thus it doesn't stay quot;flatquot;. It likes to move around and bulge. I have placed this carpet on another thick carpet. Now I need ideas to keep or stick my thin carpet on top of the thick one without damaging both of them. I dont want to glue or nail stuff done. Something quick and simple. Thanks everyone.
It likes to move around and bulge What you need is a carpet/rug non-slip gripper pad. You can find these in most department stores and Home Depot and Lowe's. It is a netting material you lay down under the rug. It will stop the rug from slipping. It comes in different sizes that can be trimmed to fit.
Q: Little more info I was having a heated debate with friends and suddenly there are large blotches of red wine all over my new cashmere rug and splatters over the wall. Consulting the services of a professional cleaner is out of the question. Please it's urgent the rug really tied the room together. Look forward to hearing your suggestions,Robledo Puch
A professional carpet cleaner is your best bet. However, you say this is out of the question. Realize that any home remedy is risky. Having said this, you can try to clean this rug yourself, but the results are not guaranteed. You can remove red wine with white wine. Pour white wine onto the red wine stains. Let that sit for about 20 minutes. Then wash the rug in your machine using the cold water setting and Woolite. I would not add fabric softener. After washing, hang to air dry. Do not machine dry. There is a chance machine washing will ruin your rug, but cold water machine-washing is as close as hand-washing as possible. If you let the rug air dry, there is a good chance it will survive. Honestly, if I had an expensive cashmere rug that was stained, I would take it a professional. The choice is yours. Good luck. -
Q: Do most people prefer carpet over hardwood/vinyl/linoleum?Carpets collect dust hair mites and all things gross.. and you have to vacuum which costs money.. not to mention hard work and is loud and annoying. Also, many Americans wear shoes in their homes. So why would you want a flooring that collects the dirt on the bottom of your shoes? When has home carpeting become generalized standards for most homes? Anybody know?
Most homes don't have carpeting at the entrance door where alot of people take their shoes off. Carpeting has a pad underneath it, unless it's like mine where I have underfloor heating in my ground floor living room. Little kids like to play sit on the floor, so carpeting is warmer/softer for them in the winter months. Most bedrooms are carpeted for barefoot warmth. (You can't fall asleep if your feet are ice). Mopping shampooing is work, shampooing a carpet is done less frequent. I'd rather have baby tip over and bonk his head on carpet than on a tiled floor. Full room carpeting became popular about in the 60's. Under floor electric heating is catching on, I have it in my bathrooms built in '99. ele ^ (my delete isn't working)
Q: 1) How often does the average person scrub their carpets?2) How often does the average person scrub their sofa/furniture?
Carpet manufacturers recommend carpet be professionally cleaned a minimum of once a year. More if needed w/ high traffic etc. Furniture I would assume when needed or some carpet places do that also . GL
Q: Is there some kind of carpeting that won't collect dust deep within its root? We're going to have most of our carpeting changed to laminate because I have HORRIBLE dust allergies, but we want to keep the carpeting in the living room and dining room. Is there some kind of hypo-allergenic carpeting?
Regardless of the carpet material, if the carpet pad you choose is not hypoallergenic as well, the possibility of allergens persists. Choose a carpet pad that has moisture resistance, giving it anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties. If you are gluing the carpet to the floor, choose adhesives with low VOC emissions.
Q: i washed my area rug with a little soap and water due to the fact it has spilled milk and puppy pee on it. i was wondering why it has a sweet but yet funny smell and how to get rid of it cause its not in just one spot can i wait for it to dry sprinkle some baking soda on it then rub it in and vacuum i washed this thing when it was 80* and bright and sunny out
Haha- I also have a similar project! I merely keep them in an previous cubby hollow specially situations or purchase some new clothing when I even have the time. yet whilst they are truly bothering you basically putting there empty, take stuff out of your cloth wardrobe drawers and carry those up too. via the way, I basically have seventeen empty hangers now- I have been given rid of the grotesque ones and colour code via clothing varieties (long sleeve, short sleeve, etc) Hooray for OCD!!! XD
Q: Which is better to clean carpets - steam cleaning or chem dry?
carpet steam cleaning must be done to remove dirt and other harmful bacteria and germs from the carpet where as dry cleaning is for drying the carpet quickly................
Q: How to clean the coke on the auto carpet?
If your carpet is small and can be disassembled, then disassemble it and wash. gently brush again and again with a toothbrush or small brush until the stain is removed. coke is easy to clean, you can spray the agent on the satin, and rub with a wet towel.
