Do they actually build stuff or just wire them? I know this is probably a stupid question.
Electrical engineering is a broad and expansive field that covers almost every aspect of any device or piece of equipment that uses electricity. I have a friend who is a electrical engineer (and is also the smartest person I know), who knows how to design complex Printed Circuit Boards, right down to complex wiring jobs. He currently works as a product engineer for HP. But they do a lot more than that, from designing electronic devices, to working with and designing the high voltage equipment that is used in power grids. Pretty much anything that uses electricity was designed or is maintained by an electrical engineer.
I might be starting a job doing industrial electric, and I want to make sure I can read the blue prints good. I am recently graduated from high school and have a vo-tech background in electrical, only no blue print reading. I know how to read schematics, ladder diagrams, and residential blue prints, but how different are industrial and residential blueprints? Does anyone know a site where I can look at some industrial electric blueprints? I know when i get there they will be able to teach me how to read it, but I figured I would try to save everyone some time and see what I can figure out before I get there.

Minor in a language! Especially if you take Spanish (which 1/3 of the U.S. population now speaks!) or another language widely spoken in the area that you're looking for a job, it'll open up a lot of opportunities for you. It'll look good to potential employers, of course, as you'll be able to talk to more of their clients, and it'll also help you a lot in your personal life! I've been taking Spanish for a long time now, and I can't tell you how many opportunities it's opened up for me. There are so many awesome people I've gotten to know because I speak it, I've been able to help out people (like a woman on her first day of moving to the U.S. and a girl at a homeless shelter) by translating for them, and I've been able to eavesdrop on more conversations/surprise people by randomly speaking to them in Spanish (great fun!) Other languages that might be good for you would be Chinese or Japanese, given all the technological advances happening thereYou might be able to study abroad or do internships with some really cutting-edge companies, and that'd look good to employers. Plus, just the fact that that you could go to conferences or seminars in China or Japan would be very useful. There are a lot of people who will have similar backgrounds to you in engineering, and a language will help set you apart by giving you a really useful, really attractive-to-employers skill!

I have a hot tub connected to a fused disconnect. That is fed from a 30 Amp circuit breaker in my main panel. I was told that i needed to have it protected by a GFCI breaker. Would it satisfy the NEC if i just replaced the current 30 amp breaker with a 30 amp GFCI breaker and left the disconnect between that and the hot tub?
