Garbage disposal is wired into open electrical outlet down thru basement. Dryer is not vented outside, which is in the basement also, right next to this outlet. There is excessive lint from the dryer all over this open outlet that doesnt have a cover and the live electrical big thick white wire that you wire a house with is split down the middle then the raw metal part is inserted into each side of the outlet for the garbage disposal. If I pull this out to disconnect it will it spark? Shock me? Catch on fire? I want to do this because I am afraid it is going to catch on fire from all the lint. Is that possible also?I rent and I know the dryer should be vented, however it is all glass block windows and landlord has yet to fix it so please dont tell me to vent the dryer. thanks

Dryer lint is just like a fuel, very flammable. Make the landlord fix it. That is a very dangerous situation. If he won't, report the problem to your local fire department. They will see he does fix it.

You have the number, 15 watts. but that is a maximum, the actual power will be less than that. If you need the actual power, you cannot calculate it, you have to measure it. .

I need to make some electrical schematics up for some older equipment. What programs are available other than AutoCAD? Not wanting to spend the $$$ for AutoCAD at this time and I'd prefer not to use paper and pencil.Thanks.

Search: electrical CAD several choices are available. AutoCAD is not very good for schematics.

Downstairs 4 outlets and 4 of the lights stopped working. One of the outlets that doesn't work has the top plugin socket working but the bottom one doesn't. Also 2 lights still work even though they are in rooms where the sockets don't work. At the time we did have two computers running from the outlets and maybe some other electrical stuff. When the electrical went out we heard electrical sparking sounds.Then like a couple months later it happened again but upstairs. The lights and outlets stopped working in 2 bedrooms and the bathroom. I don't think we had very much electrical equipment plugged in just maybe a hair straightener.If I reset the breaker the switch will move to where its supposed to be but nothing happens.How much money should I have on hand for the electrician approximately? $200? $1000?

I would start by looking at the outlet where only one of the plugins work. Usually only kitchens are skip wired (2 separate circuits on top and bottom plug). When you had the sparking (short) it probably burnt a wire off.

Best thing to do is use a surge protector and if the equipment is costly enough use one voltage stabiliser/CVT/UPS in addition.
