- Q: need to replace the floor
- As a footnote: All total, you are probably looking at a $600 to $800.00 do it yourself repair job here. And that's is assuming nothing else needs replacing. (as general, when the floor is gone - the stringers have too - and then you are really into some major work and repair. So, careful thought should be given as to whether your 88 Bayliner is worth the expense and risk of this DIY repair. I mention that, only because, while I have no idea the condition of the rest of your boat or its motor - my 40 plus years of boatbuilding experience tells me - your boat is most likely not worth this repair. Especially since you have never done it before, and have no clue as to what else might be wrong with the floor, sub-floor, hull, or stringers. . .

- Q: what can I use to dissassemble my laminate floor?
- The same thing you use to remove glued-down vinyl flooring: A floor scraper. It's about a 6-inch-wide steel blade mounted in a capture assembly at the end of a pole. The blade is sharp, but it's thicker than the blade in a box cutter. It's also removeable, so you can replace a dull blade. Start at one end of the room and work the blade under the flooring. Then thrust it forward under the laminate to separate the glue from the floor (hopefully it's a concrete floor). Keep in mind that you will destroy the laminate. If it's been glued down, there's really no way to salvage it.
- Q: I am remodeling my kitchen and it has an industrial tile on the floor now (similiar to school flooring). I would like to put ceramic tile in its place. is it okay to lay the ceramic right over top if the floor is in good condition? or do i have to remove the laminate before placing the ceramic?
- Lift the laminate. You'll need a rougher surface to properly lay the ceramic tile.

- Once the flooring is cleaned and ready to go. You ll need 1/2 cement board. My preference is Durock..Pre cut the Durock and lay into place. Cutting can be done with a hand cutter with a carbide tip or cut with a masonry saw blade (DUSTY!)..Dry fit the pcs, lift and sweep the area again. Spread a thin set with a 1/4 x 1/4 square notched trowel. Set board back into the thin set and walk on it all over. Nail down ( or screw) with 1 1/2 galvanized nails . Use nothing shorter.. 8 in the field and 3/4 along all the seams. Tape all joints with thin set and cement board tape ( this is different from dry wall tape.) Let floor dry 24 hrs.. You are ready to tile. Use the proper trowel for your tile. My recommendations are to use thin set and thin set only for tile setting. Starting from the middle, dry lay tiles out to the walls.. If you have a 1/2 tile or bigger , your good. If less than a 1/2 tile, readjust center of the tile to the center line, this will get you a better wall cut. Straight edges and tape measure to stay square is the best way to go. All this is in accordance with the Tile Council of America guide book, Along with the TCA guidelines. - Q: Floor tile superior products, first-class goods, qualified products What is the difference
- 1, excellent goods, usually no problem, flatness, color, black spots will not have. Of course, the leak may also be a bit, very little. 2, a level of words, usually a little flawed, or flatness almost, or black spots, or the pattern will be a little lack of what. Half of the first-class products can be used, because the quality control standard control drops very well. Small manufacturers, then, is a group of a number of goods, and this shipment is good, the next batch is not necessarily a. 3, qualified products, then this is usually only two places to sell: 1, processing plants, take the most appropriate processing of qualified goods, but the lowest price, and then the problem is not the largest, with not many. 2, half of the requirements of very low places, such as: plant, rural. Qualified product missing angle is very common, what other problems needless to say. How many will be, size only.
- Q: I have dark wood colored laminate floors and I can NOT find a streak free cleaner. HELP!
- Laminate floors are very low maintenance. Ironically, if you use a lot of cleaning products on them, they will actually look worse...they will get smudges and streaks, like you're experiencing. And never use steam...steam can absolutely ruin laminate floors. It can cause warping and even cause the veneer to peel right off. Having said this, exactly how do you maintain a laminate floor? Mostly just by vacuuming it. When you need more than a vacuuming, use a microfiber mop and plain old water. No cleanser, no vinegar, no nothing...just water. Let the mop do the work. Microfiber is fantastic at removing dirt and streaks and doesn't need a cleanser to help. In your case, I would definitely vacuum and then mop with a microfiber mop. Wet the mop and use it. No need to dry the floor, but also don't let water pool on the floor. You want a good damp mop, but not puddles of water. (Streaks of water are ok.) If you don't already have a microfiber mop, you can buy them at Walmart, Target, Kmart, Home Depot, and even Dollar General. I've never used anything but a vacuum and a microfiber mop (plus water) on our laminate floors and they still look fantastic after all these years. Hope this helps. -
