Q:I currently attend the gym but cannot always get there. I have just started doing press ups each day that I miss, and I was wondering if press ups every morning was a more productive way of working out than going to the gym 3 days a week. Thanks for the help!
I'm not familiar with press-ups are they pushups, or a form of them? Anyway, whatever they are...they are more than likely only targeting one muscle group. To be productive you shouldn't ignore the rest of your body. Think total body workouts. Also don't forget about cardio. Muscular training provides cardio to some degree...but not enough as actually doing cardio would. Cardio is the key to losing weight...and if that's not your goal, it keeps your heart and lungs healthy. Push-ups are an excellent upper body exercises that engages the chest, biceps, traps, and shoulders. But like I said, don't ignore the rest of the body. Do core exercises (planks, vertical leg crunches, russian twists, etc) and lower body exercises like squats and lunges and variations of them. Don't worry about getting to the gym all the time. All the exercises mentioned require just your own bodyweight (and maybe a dumbbell for the Russian Twist). Also unlike the machines in the gym, they are targeting more than one muscle at a time. Example (A russian twist engages the abs, and the obliques, not to mention the arms, and allow spinal mobility) or you can do three different machines to do the same thing. When you do go to the gym, try incorporating more use of freeweights/stabilty balls/resistances bands/medicine balls instead of just machines. Also doing muscle exercises EVERYDAY is not productive. Allow your muscles at least 24-48 hours to recover. Failure to do so could result in overtraining and injury. Best of luck!
Q:Hi there,i have been using a barbell bench press for my decline press and nearly every gym session i seem to stack the weights up and up. however when i use the smith machine for flat bench press it seems that it takes me a very long time to gain more weight.Which machine will get me better results and weight gains?ThanksP.S Is there any difference between the way the two machines work the chest?(The smith machine is a machine and barbell bench press is free hand)
Always, ALWAYS go regular free weight bench press. Free weights are the most effective because the movements are not controlled...they are not as safe as machines per se, but what's a spotter for eh? I bench 185lbs (barbell) right now. If I were to use a Smith machine, I could probably do 225lbs due to the extra support. Decline bench pressing seems to be easier than incline for some reason. My favorite has and always will be the regular flat bench press, but I do understand what you mean by decline feeling easy. The standard, flat bench press is the #1 upper body exercise though.
Q:I have to make pressed sandwiches for a party, but I don't have a sandwich press!!Can I use my George Foreman grill?I would go get a sandwich press, but if I'm only gonna use it once or twice, why spend money on it?
The Foreman grill is very similar to a Sandwich press, so it will be fine to use
Q:im 14 years old. i had acne since i was 12 but it was never thatbad. my face is really clear now since ive been using proactiv :] but if i start using press powder will i start getting pimples again? will people notice when i use it when im not using it?is MAC the best press powder? how much does it cost?please give me good answers , thank you =]
i use MAC, but it is very expensive...since your skin is oily and you are breaking out i wouldnt recommend MAC...even though it is my favorite makeup line, my second favorite is Covergirl...try the covergirl line it is very inexpensive and have good results... i would recommend these two covergirl...clean press powder in original...it has noxema in it and covergirl smothers pressed powder, it smoothes imperfectons!
Q:I'm 6 Foot and weigh 189 Pounds, my max bench press is 215. How much should I be able to bench?
It all depends in what shape you are in and how developed your muscles are for lifting if you just started lifting then your ahead of most since you can at least lift your own weight which many people cant
Q:I work out regularly and consistently, but I've been lazy about the bench press for the past few months or so. I still work everything else out consistently, I just hate working my chest. I'm gonna start back up soon anyway.Anyway, the last time I benched (3 months ago), my one rep maximum for my bench press was 265lbs. Like I said, I haven't touched the bench since. However, I have been working really hard to improve my military press and have been very successful. I just started doing standing military presses with barbells and in the past 4 weeks, I've gone from my one rep maximum being 175 to 205 with perfect form. Can I expect my bench press to have increased as well as a result of indirect training? Thanks!
Its hard to say from military pressing, if you're shoulders were weak in comparison to your chest before then its likely that when you go back you're bench will be higher. You see more indirect strength gains from doing upper back work. My bench went up (without benching) when i did lots of rows, pullups and so on. The other thing is that the long head of the tricep will get alot of work from military presses, this could also boost the bench strenght. I would say the determining factor is how your form is on the bench press. If you have a slightly wider than shoulder width grip and keep your elbows pointing inwards slightly then their will be more anterior deltoid involvement and so the military press will definately help. But if you use a wide grip and let your elbows point outwards, then there is alot less shoulder help, and so it might not help that much. Either way its a good idea to give your chest a break and keep your shoulders healthy :)
Q:I want a ten inch flour tortilla press without a non-stick surface because non stick surfaces impart chemicals into the food. All the ones I've seen do. Suggestions?
Electric press? I've seen electric tortilla cookers, but these only cook the tortilla - they don't press the ball of dough into a tortilla. And anyways, no one buys those things anyways. I've seen the old cast-iron presses for sale at any Mexican mart, or in the Ethnic Aisle of my regular grocery stores. They simply press the ball of dough (corn, flour - makes no difference) into a tortilla - they don't cook it. You'll have to use a frying pan for that.
Q:I've bench pressed for many years and encountered this problem over the past 2months.During my first set I will get pretty intense pain in my right bicep. It will be fine after the 2nd set but never the less it is very uncomfortable, could lead to joint damage and reduces how much I can do on my chest during the session. How can I resolve this problem? Why is it happening?
Well first off it could be from any number of things, now you say you have been lifting for years so im sure you know that the tricep is the secondary muscle when benching, however depending on how wide your grip is, and what the position of your arms are at the bottom of the press can put more strain on muscles other than your chest and tris, therefore your biceps could be called in to the press, ask someone to watch you and when let them know when the pain starts, is most intense, and when it starts to go away throughout the rep. then try moving around your grip and and relying on stricter form and have them watch you again and see if the point of pain changes, lessens, or increases. None the less you should talk to a sports injury specialist, NOT YOUR GENERAL PHYSICIAN, nothing against them, but those that are in the sports medicine field study specifically that.
Q:the press spent 100s of hrs on Obama's Birth Certificate!!?
You don't have free press or free mainstream media anymore. What you have is corporate press which is part of the status quo...hence the rich get richer, the poor grow in number and become poorer, the middle class the backbone of American progress and prosperity is disappearing, people's sovereignty is being replaced by the rule of global financiers and banksters, and so on...the press is not interested in real patriots, it caters to unconscionable warmongers and the whor e$ of finance, NOT the people. ADDENDUM: Now we are down to about five giant corporations that dominate well over 80% of the market, hence what you are getting is corporate and Zionist(Israeli) perspective, nothing to do with democracy and people!
Q:I am a little over 21 weeks pregnant and just recently felt the baby move on the outside of my belly pretty good...acutally starting on Friday we could feel the baby kick or move on the outside if I pressed in the area I felt the baby move. I find myself pressing down, not hard, more often trying to feel the baby move...am I doing any harm? I know this sounds like a dumb question but I am worried now because I haven't felt the baby move as much yesterday and into today and I am afraid now that someone is wrong. Help! Is it bad to press on the abdomen to feel the baby move? Can the baby be felt some days and not others at 21 weeks?
No, it's not dangerous for the baby at all! (If you do it gently) If you do it gently, the baby will feel you and react to the pressure... It is his little way to say hello? Is there somebody there? ^_^ Some babies also react to bright light... ;) My last one did. Yes, at 21 weeks it's perfectly normal to feel it move one day and not the other. Enjoy your pregnancy and congratulation for the upcoming little human!
