- Q:We are going to be purchasing carpet from Lowe's, its a stain master carpet, and Im not sure what type of pad to buy.. does it really matter??
- I have been researching carpet purchases for a bit now, and the pad is apparently very important, it can really extend the life of your carpet. If you are spending the money for Stainmaster, you really want to get a good pad. Do not get less than half an inch thick pad. From what I understand, the top of the line pads aren't really necessary unless they fit a very specific need you have. Some of the very expensive pads are anti-allergen, some are made to be super quiet, etc., so if those are important to you and you are willing to spend the money, go for it. If not, most people are fine with the carpet pads right in the middle of the price range. But, again, that is not where you want to save your money because the cheap ones will not lay correctly for the installers, they sound like garbage bags when you walk on them (you know when you walk on carpet that just isn't right?), and it might hold moisture which is not good in a carpet.

- Q:I have a big rug in my bathroom (Not huge, its about 5' x 3').. it's thick and has a thick rubber back. I don't know how to describe what it's made of, but it's not the usual kind of rug you would find to go around the toilet (with a toilet seat cover to match), it's a more expensive rug and the threads kind of loop up and back in.. lol Does that make sense? Anyway, it's been in my bathroom for a while and I want to wash it but I don't want to ruin it. Help?
- You can wash rubber-backed bathroom rugs right in your washing machine...Warm water setting, regular detergent. However...how to dry it? That's a dilemma. The rug looks better if you dry it in your dryer, but eventually the dryer will cause the rubber backing to come of in little pieces. I dry our bathroom rug in the dryer anyway, but end up having to replace the rug every couple of years because the backing has come off. The backing won't come off if you hang the rug to air dry, but the rug doesn't look nearly as fluffy or pretty. It's a personal choice on how to dry it...machine or air dry, but you can wash that rug right in your washer...warm water not hot. Again, hot can ruin the backing. -

- Go to any pet store and get a bottle of a product called Nature's Miracle. This contains an enzyme that breaks down proteins in bodily fluids, like urine, blood, and vomit. This then eliminates the odor. I would also recommend you get the stuff in the orange bottle instead of the white bottle. It contains oxyclean, which further helps eliminate the stains. Just pour it on liberally directly onto the carpet. If there's still some solid matter, you can wipe this up with a rag. Then cover the area with an old towel and let it sit overnight. The towel will wick up any excess liquid and be a warning not to step there. The next day, remove the towel and let it air dry. If it still smells, apply it again until it goes away.
- Q:I am repainting and decorating my spare bedroom and have a question regarding carpet and area rugs. The room has honey stained pine hardwood floors which I want to keep. I dont really want to have carpet installed in the room, so here is what i'm thinking. How do you think it would look if I bout a piece of carpet alittle smaller than the size of the room and put that down? Like 3-5 inches of hardwood still exposed around the edges of the room. Would this look weird? I want just a plain colored light tan carpet with a thick nap or shag like. Any body have this or seen it done? - Q:I am trying to find a practical solution to carpeting my basement with pets and kids in the house. I was looking at carpet tile because I can just replace a worn or stained piece. Has anyone here used carpet tile? What brand did you buy and how did it hold up? Can this be easily installed or do I need a pro? Any tips?
- i have used carpet tile for what i wanted it was perfect!! VERY VERY EASY to install (much easier than peel press tile) easy to trim- we used it because i wanted an ultra low nap carpet in the baby's room (she had severe dust allergies) the rest of the house we removed all the carpet down to the cement floor. the only 'issue' i have had is that with constant picking at it a tile can be pulled up (small bored child LOL!) but if you keep any extras its easily replaced) we had no dogs at the time so cannot speak to that if i had it to do over.... i wouldnt have bothered. we LOVE the cement floor. once she out grew the crawling stage the only carpets we use now are throw rugs that are easily cleaned i would never go back to having any carpet by choice. the plain flooring can be polished/ stained or left as is- its especially nice in the looooong summer weather we have here. in the winter the throw rugs warm it up. if you truly dont like the cement - consider the new floating wood floors like pergo- you might be happier in the long run- remember that if you are prone to any kind of flooding in your basement carpet holds mold (yecch!) rj

- as a IIcrc Cert. Carpet cleaning Tech, I can tell you that if you didnt get all the beer out of the carpet, and what i mean is if the padding is still wet it will form what is called a water stain witch most of the time will come out if you clean the carpet again but dont use soap in the carpet cleaning machine put it in a spray bottle and spray it on the carpet first let it sit for about 10 mins, then put rubbing alochol in the water water about 1/2 cup then the rest hot water. then dry good
