Q:Hello, im about to buy Lincoln Mark VIII 1995 but im not sure if i should because the owner said that the front and rear air ride suspnsion needs to be fixed or converted to standard suspension but im not sure how much it would cost and is it worth fixing it up and it is my first car so i wouldent want it to break on me and im getting a really good deal only for $500 thanks

The 92+ Lincoln Mark 8 is a good car with a very reliable drivetrain, but the suspension was a bit poor. I think the air ride started going out before the cars would reach 50,000 miles, and rather than spend the high amounts of money on new air ride parts that would just go out again in another 50k, most people just convert it to a conventional spring and shock/strut system. It's not the cheapest, but it's cheaper than replacing the air suspension, and more reliable. As for the price, I'd buy it for that, if nothing else I could part it out and sell certain individual parts of that car for what it cost to buy.

Q:Why do some cars have uneual length control arms? Why arent they the same size?

its mainly because of all the different types of suspension systems there are on cars today,every company thinks they can improve there's to make it better and basically they do sometimes,but that's one of the main reasons for this,also this helps in the ride of it as well as the handling of it there's also a difference in the right and left sides of it on any vehicle ,its definitely not like the old days though,used to everything was almost the same from the right to the left side of vehicles,good luck on this hope this helps.

Q:I already know how a rear suspension system works, and how shock absorbers and springs work, but what I can never understand is that in a front wheel drive car, if there needs to be a straight axle to convery power to both front wheels, how can they turn without coming unaligned? And even in rear wheel drive cars, if there is an axle, how does the system work?I already looked at the howstuffworks article on it, so if anyone has a good big article on it, I‘d like to read it, or even if you could explain it here.

Dunlops, Bridgestones, Metzlers, or Kenda's are all good tires for both front and rear. Your insurance company inteh event you crash would probably not pay out the claim if they realize you don't have proper tires on it. That's something you should do to be safe since you don't have very much rubber contacting the road surface. As for whether or not it's okay, that would be a no since a regular tire isn't designed to be curved so as you turn you lose traction. In a curve that can be lethal.

Q:After converting my front suspension to coil springs, what do u have to keep plugged up so that my rear suspension is still aid shocks. I‘m not sure if I disconnected something because the back doesn‘t attempt to inflate now.

unfortunately what i have discovered with my mark 8 if the front is unplugged the rear wont work at all all the sensors work together and when one or two is not working it shuts the whole system down my suggestion to you is eitehr switch the rear over to standard suspension -or- try pluggin in the front sensors and play with them to get the rear to rise again and just permanently setting the front sensors in one position. another option for you to consider is to locate the air line on the rear of the car and fix it to work as if you put air shocks on the rear and install a nozzle on the car so you can maually add air to the rear suspension instead of the trying to deal with the sensors its lot less of headache and aggravation this way also. i hope i helped you with your problem have a great day!

As previous responders indicated, it's possible to convert a hardtail to full suspension but not very practical. However there is a way to give some cush to a hardtail without adding a lot of weight or costing an arm and a leg. A suspension seat post will take some of the edge off the harsh stuff for normal cross country riding. They start out in price around 30 bucks for the least expensive models and go on up for posts with more adjustablility and travel. A caution though, don't expect a suspension post to turn your hardtail into a big travel, free ride bike.
