- Q:Which is cheaper, having my badly damaged oak floors patched and refinished by a professional or installing a pergo type floor over the existing flooring myself? I know the level of the floor will be raised up a bit. That's ok.
- It would be better for the resale value of your home if you re-did the natural wood floors. If you do some research you might be surprised to see how much of the repair job you can do yourself, thus decreasing labor costs a lot. Pergo is okay, but will be damaged by water if there are leaks somewhere. Ours has been pretty well ruined by the dishwasher and air conditioner backing up. We had to tear up part of the living and all the dining room to find and replace some by the back door (the seal had worn and rain leaked in under the floor so we didn't know) that was mildewing underneath (and stinking!). Big time hassle. I'm thinking of going tile next time.
- Q:My little dog has some leg problems. His back legs are a little numb so he slips around on the tile we have. We are moving to a new home and are looking to put some flooring in. We would like to put anything but carpet. Would you reccomend wood or bamboo flooring? Are either of these better when it comes to slipping and sliding around?Thanks!
- Most flooring is fine . But i think it is the wax and in some cases if you use wood less slipping will occur but more scratches.

- Q:Looking for a green safe way to lay carpet onto of the basement floor with pading. Existing Carpet was glued down. I have a new born baby and the basement didn't get finished before she was born. I feel it is unsafe now to lay the carpet now. but if they don't us glue is their a way to staple into concret floor.

- Q:what can I use to dissassemble my laminate floor?
- I use a combination of floor scraper and a shovel made for tearing off roof shingles. The tear-off shovel has a metal bracket on the back which acts as a fulcrum, for prying up with the tip, that a floor scraper lacks. If this flooring is actually glued to the sub-floor, it will take a lot of elbow grease too, hehehe. Good Luck
- Q:how do you take up linoleum on a wood floor with out damaging the wood
- a very sharp scraper. a long handle ice scraper works best and sharpen often like with a sharpening stone. best if stone can be attached to a drill.
