- No one really knows when the first hand held vacuum cleaner was created but it was long after first vacuum cleaners were invented. First portable cleaners were carried on back until technology allowed to minimised their size. Future designs? Dyson DC30 Hand Held is a future IMO, but who knows? FOr sure they will be lighter and more compact.
- Q: I was wondering why my vacuum cleaner was leaving trails of crap all over the place... so I flipped it upside down when it was on, and it turns out it does vacuum (quite powerfully, at that) but all the crap gets shot out of another part of the bottom! What can I do to stop this... maybe it just needs a good cleaning? I don't know much about vacuum cleaners, but I know they shouldn't do THAT..... thanks in advance! :)
- Agreed with the others. You definitely need to empty the bag or bin container completely and change the filter (or wash it, depending on which vacuum cleaner you have). Check that there are no blockages anywhere. What make/model do you have?

- I believe it is similar to mechanical horsepower, which takes into account both speed and torque. In the case of airwatts, it would be the available power to do work, taking into account both the pressure and volume of the airflow, outside of the vacuum motor's fan.

- It doesn't ruin your vacuum,except for maybe over use. Make sure, after every time you use it that hair balls aren't stuck in the wand or in the brushes. If your vacuum is the bagless variety, clean out the canister after each use.. The Dyson brand vacuum is supposed to be one of the best but really expensive. You basically have to vacuum everyday. I've seen these like magnetic brooms demonstrated at dog shows that seem to really pick up the hair- sorry I don't know what they are officially called or where you get them. I hope someone has a better answer because with 3 dogs and a cat there's a lot of hair in my house...
