- Q: I recently changed the lower unit, and am having no water out the top 2 ports just below the powerhead, also the engine is getting heated up. any other pumps other than in the lower unit?any advice is appreciated.
- Both jtexas and mrfixit are experienced mechanics and know their stuff. The exhaust by-pass which your describing as 2 holes, only get a mist of water, most of it comes out at the bottom of the drive. Depending on model it comes out the center of the prop, or through the skeg-fin. The power head should get warm, but not hot enough to cause water to sizzle when you sprinkle some on the heads. Most common problem, is blockage at the top of the water tube, or the thermostat isn't opening. But if your running on a flush attachment, check the water that's coming out at the exhaust area, it should be warm. I hope this helps! Good luck!
- Q: Okay, I have a 1982 Suzuki Dt8 that someone gave me. But it will not pump water well, when you reve it it will have a little watter shoot out the water outlit, but heres the thing. if you take the cover off be the shift linkage and run the engin it will pump water through just fine
- I've passed on answering your question a couple times, mainly because I'm not sure exactly what you are asking. So let me ask. In the water does the engine overheat? I'm not sure that what you are looking at isn't the relief hole and not the water discharge, which should be under water. How are you supplying water to your engine? Are you running in a barrel? The water pump should be replaced every 2-3 years, so unless you are going to do it yourself, take it to a shop and explain what you are observing. Taking the cowling off will have no effect on the water pump, so I'm guessing you are looking at the wrong place. P.S. This was a common error with Evinrude small motors back in the 70's and 80's, motors similar to yours. The exhaust fin was just behind the propeller. not higher up the leg
- Q: The plumber has disappeared on us with 99% of the job done. Our new basement remodel has baseboard heating installed, a water pump attached to the furnace/boiler, but no heat downstairs because their is no thermostat. - That part in the picture is a high limit control with manual reset. It has nothing to do with the pump. You will need more than a thermostat to control the added pump. When you have more than one pump the system is zoned .You need a switching relay panel (Taco SR502) that not only turns on the pump , but also the burner. There is a lot to know here and it's best left to a heating contractor.

The weep-hole will show the color of the coolant if it's leaking. - Water pumps cost from should cost from $40 to $100. The car probably has even more problems than the water pump considering the cars age and the price for it. You should take it to a local mechanic so that they can check it out and give you their input before buying it.

- Usual answer is to look for the flats of the gland on the shaft on tighten up with a spanner,as this will compress the packing a bit more. A small drip is not very bad but you are right to check.

- water pump at autozone is about $130.00 to 190.00. to have it installed will be expensive because i think your timing belt in connected to the water pump and that will also have to be replaced. while there in there have them check the belt tensioners and replace if necessary . because this is not the time to go cheap. cause if u don't replace these items one of them could fail and result in permanent engine damage. better safe than sorry . i think it has two tubes. good luck
