Q:i have a 2000 chevy malibu (i know it sucks) i fixed the intake manifold gaskets (upper and lower) thermostat and its still leaking and sometimes overheating. my next thought is its the water pump. there's no crack in the radiator or hoses is there anything else that can cause it to overheat besides these. what about vacuum leakage? o2 sensors?

Have the system pressure checked that will show U where the leak is.

Q:ive been doing repair work on an old 86 jeep cherokee and when i let it idle there is a water leak, me and my dad came to the conclusion there was something wrong with the water pump. i cant find the manual and i dont even know what im looking for, so where would i find the water pump and how would i go about replacing it?

For 2.5L 4.0L Engines Some vehicles use a serpentine drive belt and have a reverse rotating water pump coupled with a viscous fan drive assembly. The components are identified by the words REVERSE stamped on the cover of the viscous drive and on the inner side of the fan. The word REV is also cast into the body of the water pump. 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Drain the cooling system. 3. Disconnect the hoses at the pump. 4. Remove the drive belts. 5. Remove the power steering pump bracket. 6. Remove the fan and shroud. 7. If equipped, remove the idler pulley to gain clearance for pump removal. 8. Unbolt and remove the pump. To install: 9. Clean the mating surfaces thoroughly. 10. Using a new gasket, install the pump and tighten the bolts to 13 ft. lbs. (18 Nm). 11. If removed, install the idler pulley. 12. Reconnect the hoses at the pump and install accessory drive belt. 13. Install the power steering pump bracket. Install the fan and shroud. 14. Adjust the belt tension and fill the cooling system to the correct level. 15. Operate the engine with the heater control valve in the HEAT position until the thermostat opens to purge air from the system. Check coolant level and fill as required.

Q:I bought a salt water filter system for my inflatable pool(14' X 40deep) and filled it up with 80 pounds of salt as the directions call for. Unfortunately Intex did not design the pump correctly and it leaks.There is supposed to be some copper ion exchange with the water as it goes through the system. I returned the salt water system. Since salt is a natural bacterial fighter by itself, can I just add salt once in a while and keep the water salty and use the filter pump that came with the pool? You never see lakewater(which is a little salty) with algae in it unless it is stagnant. With a filter pump this would not happen as the water is being filtered frequently.

I don't think you or others really understand a salt water chlorination unit. The salt is added to the pool water through water circulation of the pool water the ION unit water passes past these two electrodes which in turn give off a chlorine gas which becomes the chlorine requirements for the pool On the ioniser is a dial that is set to a required setting to do with the volume of certain sized swimming pools. Even though one has this unit connected to their pool, they still have to add chlorine to their pool of the chlorine level isn't enough. This can be done in various methods, via a floating skimmer or have pellets put in hair lint pot or scattered over the pool surface, once dissolved in a bucket of warm water. Just by leaving the salt in the water as you suggest won't really do much other than help keep the water salty! This is my opinion I'll not get into a wage or wars over who is right who is wrong! Your trying to get others on your side, because you made the wrong choice purchased a salty pool chlorinator pump your dis- satisfied with your choice I am not going to agree or disagree with your statement other that to say your putting your families health at risk being a skin flint! So you think your doing the right thing, by putting your families health at risk for the sake of a few lousy dollars. Do it properly have a professional to come connect it all up for youin a proper manner!! Surely your families health means a lot more to you than risking a few lousy bucks on the proper unit! Q:I think my water pump has crapped out on my 1997 Jeep Cherokee. I have been leaking coolant for a few days now and there is a puddle under my Jeep after I turn it off and my reserve tank keeps emptying out on me. I replaced the lower radiator hose and still the same problem. It is not over heating so I am wondering if it IS a water pump problem? If it is, could I do the work myself?

Q:I have septic tanks. My toilet flushing water is filthy and the water pump runs for a long time and sounds strange. I have turned the pump off for now but know this is not an answer but i was worried it would burn out or something. Do i need a part for the pressure pump? Please help any plumbers out there.

Most toilets do not have pumps, Yours probably has a fluid master acting like a float , so water can only get so high in the tank, and a flapper - a rubber piece with a chain connecting to a handle rod. Remove the tank lid, see if the flapper goes up and down with the handle( the piece you push), this rubber piece should cover the hole completely to stop the water from going down any more. If it does not go down all the way, then it is the problem. Hope this helps.

Q:we changed the water pump it went bad and there is still a knock in it please help it is running really sluggish

I'm assuming you replaced the water pump due to an overheating problem (most water pumps fail due to leakage, so I'm assuming you drove the car with low coolant). If this is the case and you have an engine knock, you're in trouble. A knock signifies damage to the crankshaft/piston/connecting rod and the associated bearings. If it sounds like someone is hitting the engine with a hammer, you'll need to bring it in right away, before you do more damage. It's not going to be cheap (when is it with a BMW) and you may be better off selling the car and starting with a new car. Good luck. Greg

You are lifting pump or submersible pump ah? Lift pump before pumping water pump, first open the pump and then open the outlet valve, and if there is no pressure, it is time to leave, the sealing performance is not good, check where leakage, and perhaps your pump is broken

Q:I went to have my car inspected for a leak at a friendly garage I know. They said I need a new water pump and in the mean time just keep the levels always checked and filled. Is it safe to drive for a while or can the pump totally fail and overheat the engine. As far as I know it's just leaking at this stage, the pulley and belts are fine.

I am a lead mechanic my comment would probably be like this any vehicle that is leaking fluids is not a safe reliable vehicle although in some cases such as a water pump it is ok too drive a little with it leaking you need too make sure that the water pump does not start making noise that would mean the bearings are going out if it where me and ive done it before i would drive little as possible until i could get it fixed but yes the garage is correct just be cautious
