Q:We‘re fixing our place and will need about 1200 sq ft of 24x24 tile. Any ideas as to how/where one can get this at wholesale/lower cost? Thanks!: The tiling alone will cost more than $520.20 but you don't say if the tiling refers to the tile alone or the installation too. (12 X 15 X #2.89 =$520.20) Also you must figure into the amount of tile you will need things like breakage, corner or edge cut tiles, if you want tile baseboards to match the floor and patterns. You should conservatively consider about 10% to 20% more tile will be required as overage. You will also have to consider the cost of renting or buying a tile cutting tool, either a wet-saw or a score-and-snap cutter.

So w/o knowing the size of tile your using or the box size we can t help other than giving you a total s/f of the room.. Q:tile itself: if it's ceramic/porcelain, go to home depot. Rent a hilti jackhammer with 2 different bits (they'll know which ones to give you). one is a narrow chisel that pops the tiles up. the other is a wide blade that will remove thinset. sometimes the wide blade works good for removing the tile, also. whichever works best for YOU. They will explain how to use it. It is WAY easy to use and you will NOT regret it! You will want to plastic off areas that you are not removing tile completely, there will be dust. good luck! don't be cheap and buy the handscraper! you'll hate yourself.

Q:CAN YOU LAY TILE OVER TILE: If your existing tile is tight to the floor and in good shape (no cracks, loose tile, loose grout) yes you can. You need to use a thin set with a very high latex content like TEC Superflex. Be sure that the existing tile and grout is perfectly clean and there are no sealers left on the grout. This is an industry accepted method.

Q:I have 12x12 field tile and a strip of accent that‘s about 2 high. Everything I‘ve read says that you want to have the accent at eye level, which makes sense to me. Judging for myself, it LOOKS best at eye level. If I place it at eye level, I wind up with a full 12x12 tile above it, or at least, a 12 space above it. So going down to the tub, I would have a 2 1/2 cut tile at the bottom, right above the tub.Everything I have read also says that you want to have the cut tiles at the top and bottom symmetrical.: Provided the tub is fairly level, start a full tile at the bottom and work up. Tile will look fine at a 5 or six foot level ( I prefer 5 ft.) Not every one has the same eye level so the strip will be fine. The tub surround will be a bit different too so what I suggest is measuring on the tub wall the tile heights and stand back and look at it. Use a pc of tape the approx width of the strip and tape it or draw it on the tub wall s prior to tiling. Will give you a better idea. That is also the area within the rectangle of the room. Now the green tiles denote the perimeter of the square with certain allowances for corners and the fact that the perimeter you are talking about is 2 tiles wide. The outermost perimeter (green tiles) is 18 by 15 feet and is calculated by (2 * L) + (2 * W) -4. or (2 * 18) + (2 * 15) -4. Simplifying it brings it to (36) + (30) -4, or 62. You are probably wondering about the -4. That is because each corner is counted twice (once for length and again for width) and you need to compensate for the duplication. Now for the inner perimeter. The size of the inner perimeter is reduced by 2 feet or 2 tiles since the rectangle is smaller, so the dimensions are now 16 by 13 feet. The formula is the same, (2 * L) + (2 * W) -4 but with the new numbers. (2 * 16) + (2 * 13) -4 Simplifying (32) + (26) -4 = 54 Adding the two perimeters together, 62 + 54 = 116 Green tiles. Subtract that from the total tiles used, 270 - 160 = 154 White tiles. Now try that with 9 inch tiles. z
