- Q:I am about to run out of Sofa Mart leather cleaner and it's very expensive. Are there any cheaper things to use that are also safe for leather furniture?
- Ivory dish soap and water. Years ago when we bought expensive leather furniture from Mashall Fields Department store in Chicago.. they told my mom for cleaning, use a little liquid Ivory Dish soap with warm water... cleans leather and is gentle. We had 5 kids and this did the trick and the leather was never damaged from too harsh of chemicals!!

- first you will want to wash all of the pillow cases on the sofa make sure you wash these with twice the amount of detergent and in HOT water. Also add 1 cup of baking soda to the water and some fabric softener. (any kind will work) now use some Oust spray on the body of your sofa , vacuum the sofa and sprinkle some baby powder and baking soda on it, then vacuum it again. once you get the pillowcases back on the smell should me gone iof not treat it with the baby powder and baking soda again and vacuum you can also try a little fabreez on your sofa.

- Go to the library a check a book out on upholstery. I have one but it would take me forever to type out the instructions. You will need a staple gun and lots of staples and a sewing machine. I reupholstered a sectional sofa with 2 recliners at both ends. I used a heavy duty drapery fabric. It turned out great! I have since given it away and down sized to a love seat and large chair with ottoman.

- Costic sofa? Do you mean caustic soda? It's also known as lye and sodium hydroxide. It's an ingredient in many soaps, so if it's diluted properly it can clean your face. But if not diluted properly, it can quite literally eat your skin away, never mind the upper layer. Unless you find a recipe for what you want to do, I wouldn't touch it. I don't know that chemical peeling of your skin is something that's a DIY thing.
