Q:a few days ago i was racking up weights on the leg press machine but my gym teacher stopped me and told me that the leg press is bad for the joints and introduced me to the dead liftso im wondering:is the leg press really bad for the joints? (i was gonna leg press 3x my body weight,360 i weigh 120 lb, im dead serious! i cant gain weight for some reason :(,ps im not trying to brag))will the deadlift make a good substitution(for the leg press)?thanks!!
The leg press is perfectly safe. Just like with any machine or movement, they can all be dangerous if done improperly (using momentum or poor form with excessive weights). Additionally, I have no idea why he would use the dead lift as a substitute. 1. While the dead lift is an excellent exercise, it is much easier to perform incorrectly and therefore has an inherently larger chance to cause injury. 2. While the dead lift does work the legs. The primary muscles used are the back, shoulders and lats. The dead lift does not isolate the quads like the leg press and is more of an entire body movement where as the leg press is a pure leg movement.
Q:Does the press work better with cold cookie dough or room temp cookie dough? So far room temp has been hard to work with and won't come off the plastic disk easily. I'm snowed in today and planning to bake, but want to know first if the dough needs to be room temp or cold......(one spritz recipie says one thing, and a different one says another.)

Q:This may be a difficult question but just out of curiosity, what do you think the equivalent weight would be going from dumbbell press to bench press?At the moment I am doing my sets with 40 pound dumbbells with about 8 or 9 reps a set. I can hit the 50's once or twice
It is difficult to calculate. Dumbbell press uses more stabilizing muscles which makes it harder for you to do. Barbell press only requires the stabilizing muscles to keep the bar straight. If one arm is weaker you will not notice it in barbell like you would dumbbell. My max right now is 350 but with dumbbells I am lucky to put up 145 dumbbells 5 times... The easiest way to figure it out is to actually do it.
Q:I have been bench pressing for 2 years now and I have never been injured. Towards the end of the school year I started feeling this sharp pain in my front deltoid and my shoulder. When I was lifting it hurt when I pushed the weight up. The pain isnt so much shoulder or chest its both, where the armpit lining is. The pain is a sharp pain sort of feels like the muscle inside is sore. I the pain wasnt going away so I iced it for like 2 days and I tried lifting again. I still felt the pain. So i took some time off and did not touch any weights for a whole month. Today i got back and tried lifting and I still felt the pain. There is no pain when im doing close grip bench, the pain comes when my grip gets a little wide. ANY ONE HAVE ANY AVICE or TREATMENT.
I'm not jumping to conclusions but it sounds like you may have either pulled a muscle or tore some tissue. You should see a doctor if the pain isn't gone within a week. Also, you should probably avoid any upper body workout for now since that can only make it worse

I doubt you'll be able to get your max up to 170 THAT fast, but the best strength routine for bench(or any lift) is the 5x5 routine. You'll do 5 sets of increasing weight each time. For you and your max, I'd try this- Warm up set- empty bar, or maybe a lil weight. Set 1- 85x5 Set 2- 95x5 Sets 3-5- 105x5 Then throw in more reps if you feel like you can do it; and lower weight if necessary. Be sure and fully heal your soreness before you do another chest day, and you should see results! As the weight and reps get easier, just add more. Work hard, and if you don't notice results right away, remember that progress doesn't come instantly! Good luck!

Q:My regular bench pressing workout is 5 sets of ten or eight with 135 to 145 lbs. if keeping working out everyday with the same routine, approximately, what should my max bench pressing weight be by may?
This is a question that only you can answer. Only you know your capabilities, and if anybody demands more than you are capable of, you need to tell them to go fly a kite. Clint Eastwood put it succinclty: A good man always knows his limitations. This doesn't mean that you should sell yourself short either. You should constantly strive to overcome your own limitiations, but there is a limit to everything, including how much your maximum bench press should be. Just try to improve your maximum bench press weight gradually, adding a few pounds from time to time. You don't mention what position you are playing for the football team, but that is important. If you are an interior lineman, you should be stronger than a wide receiver or a defensive back. The latter positions stress running speed and agility more than strength. Set realistic goals for yourself and try to reach them. Your next goal should be 150 pounds with the same number of repetitions. Keep adjusting your weight lifting goals upward, but keep in mind that you need to stretch those muscles too, or you will be prone to muscle strains, the most common sports injuries. I have included a link below to a yoga site which will help with this. Don't forget that rest and recuperation are very important too. Work your upper body on alternating days, and the lower body in between. I wish you a great football season, both individually and collectively.

if you cant find one for a good price, i would say go for a gym membership. bench presses are great and all, but its better to be able to work more of a variety of muscles in your body to stay in better shape. a bench press really can only work a select few muscles where as a fitness center has more equipment for a variety of work outs.
