Q: For my botany class, we're supposed to find 1 sample of plant each from 10-12 different families, press them, and mount them. They are due this Thursday (3 days from now).I had already pressed all the plants needed well ahead of time using the plant press with straps and newspaper. I waited about a week to for them to dry fully, and they were all nice and flat - but someone thought they were trash and threw them away! I should have hid them in my room, but obviously it's too late for that. Now I gathered more plants to replace them, but I don't think I have enough time to press them normally. I heard that I can place foil on top of each individual plant and use a clothes iron to flatten and dry them quickly. Will this work? It doesn't need to be a work of art, it just needs to be recognizable and intact for mounting. Thanks for any advice - it's much appreciated.
I remember once reading about somebody using a microwave to accelerate the drying time of pressed plants, however I've never tried it. You could try googling this technique. I would think that the heat might cause discoloration because plants are very sensitive to that sort of thing. In any case, I would think that using a big, heavy, book-the bigger the better-like a dictionary, would work better than a newspaper. I normally press my plants in big books like this, and then put a big stack of books on top of them, and stomp a few times on it for good measure. It presses the moisture out of them and the paper absorbs it. Some papers absorb better than others, for example laminated paper doesn't work well at all for this. The trick is to get the moisture out as quickly as possible. So you can try this, let it dry a few hours, maybe take it out and put it on a new dry page, to speed up the process a little. It's like wringing out a wet towel in a way. I don't know how thick the plants you are trying to press are, but the ones I press usually dry overnight.
Q: yeah im 16 and my max shoulder press is 100. is that good? im 5'5 and 125 pounds. would someones max bench press be more or less than the shoulder press?
Your shoulder press is amazing for how old you are. Your bench press should be a lot higher then your shoulder press although it might just be that something you do in regular life is working your shoulders.
Q: Ok so there are some crimes which the state pursues and others where if there is no complainant then they don't do anything. Like I understand that in domestic violence cases the victim has to press charges, so what about something like harrassment? Does the state pursue the charges without a victim or is this one of those scenarios where the state is actually pressing charges instead of a victim? I guess I just don't see how if somebody in this scenario who refuses to press charges, there'd be a victimless crime, and therefore no crime at all, right?
Do you want to press charges is really the equivalent of asking, are you willing to be a cooperative witness? Obviously, to prove some types of crimes, the victim's cooperation is absolutely necessary. For instance, an element of a theft charge is that the property was taken from victim without victim's consent. So, the victim will need to cooperate and testify He did not have my permission in order to successfully prosecute. Some types of crimes really do not need victim testimony, such as murder -- it's reasonable for a jury to assume that the victim did not consent to being killed.
Q: I am looking for press to start reloading the Lee Classic Turret Press Reloading Kit from Cabela's look to have everything i need. I want a press that can handle the entire job and that will be able to do rifle and pistol. is this press good and what will i need in addition to load 9mm and 30-06
A potential reloader should read if not own The ABCs of reloading and own at least two good reloading manuals. My first metallic cartridge press was the Lee Challenger kit, back before it had the breech lock. It has most of what you need to start reloading, less components (powder, primers, cases, and bullets), dies, a tumbler sifter, case length gauge for the supplied trimmer, one or two loading trays and a good caliper. I still use the press today even though I now have a progressive press. The Lee Challenger is the least expensive bench press one could start with. The Lee Challenger is the single stage press I tell most people to get when starting. While I've not used the Lee turret press before, a quick look over on Lee's web site shows me they have improved the press a great deal from the old one, in powder measurement, priming and even added a fourth die hole. It is still a single stage press that wants to be a progressive.
Q: if i can do 200 lbs on vertical chest press can i do 200lbs on bench ( note. i also dont no if thats what its called but it might be its what ever machine you push foward with both arms 2
Both work the same target muscles. The chest press does alot of the stablising for you so not as many assistant muscles are used. The bench press is a progression of the chest press. When you are able to use the chest press and maintain perfect form then you are ready to progress to the bench press. Because you need more stability when performing a bench press it will be harder and you should find that you can not lift as heavy at first. If you have not used the bench press before start light and make sure you have someone to spot you. Once you have mastered the bench press you can progress to a dumbell press and then to a single arm DB press.
Q: Whats the difference between the two? Is bench press better than doing push ups?
Doing push ups works more of the upper back muscles (trapezes or traps) along with the chest, triceps and shoulder muscles including the rear deltoids. Doing push ups you have to balance your weight which also works the ligaments and tendons of the muscles. A free weight bench press is the same as a push up because you have to balance the weight. The free weight bench works everything the push up works except the traps and rear deltoids. FYI: Whenever you can, do free weights. They work your ligaments and tendons along with the muscles because you have to balance the weights while you are pushing or pulling them. In my opinion the push up is better than a bench press because it does work more muscles. This does depend on how big you want to get. Your body weight can only build so much muscle. For me my body weight is enough and therefore the push up is better for me. Someone else may have different goals and of course the push up will not be good enough for them. However, there are creative ways to add weight to the push up to make them more difficult for more challenging goals.
Q: I have La Femme Hollywood pressed powder and Aveda free powder. One uses a sponge like material and the other a brush. Which looks more natural? I don't want it to look like I'm wearing lots of makeup. BTW- How do I know what's agood brush? DO I buy one of those big ones for the powder or a small one?
Loose powder looks better and more natural, use like a soft poofy big brush, small ones are for blush. Pressed powder can leave them face lines also known as the line of demarcation. where the make up ends.
Q: freedom of press
That's close to what we now have on the Internet... and I'm all for it. It's up to the reader to discern the truth. The libel laws are important, but that generally does not protect major media figures. Swift boating uses stories about stories to get out negative impressions without lying. The neocons have funded this strategy repeatedly. The media just keeps reporting it. Unfortunately, the major media does not tred on very important and sensitive areas. RIght now the US does not have anything close to a free press because they are interested in high ratings and not offending the sponsors. This is nothing new. Unfortunately, money speaks louder than truth. The media has been used as a propaganda machine since its inception.
Q: i think press wood is a rip off for the people that by's press wood furniture anyone agreas with me.
Press wood as you call it might better known as particle board. It was invneted in the 50's due to a shortage of timber. in reality is well suited for aplications such as cabinets and vanities as well as furniture that is not moved much like a china hutch. It is actually a viable product and proably appears more often that you realize. not to mention it is cheap and easily made from the scraps of timber that would other wise be thrown away.
