- Q:I would like to recover them but they want $1000 just for the sofa. I could buy a new (junk but new) one for that. I prefer to keep these because I will probably retire next year and we can throw them out at that time. They are now both covered in green vinyl that is cracked in many places. Any ideas?

- Q:I need something in my spare bedroom for my mother-in-law to sleep on when she comes to visit (about 2x per year, 2 weeks at a time). I currently have a full-size bed but I want to convert that room into an exercise room (treadmill and small area for yoga, pilates, etc.). The bed takes up far too much room to do all of these things. When she isn't visiting, the door to that room stays closed and we never use it since the bed takes up almost the entire room (the house is old and the room is itty bitty tiny!). I want to get rid of the bed and replace it with either a sleeper sofa or futon (something a little upscale...not college-dorm style). What are your thoughts? What would YOU recommend I get? - Ugh - never found a futon that was comfortable. Are there sleeper sofas smaller than a 'full' or 'queen' size? I doubt it. (The smaller size would be a 'twin'.) You could buy a frame and mattress for a twin bed and disassemble it when not on use, then prop mattress against the wall with a protective cover over it. Or, research Intex inflatable beds. These 'air mattresses' are 2-3 times the thickness of a regular air mattress so they stand up off the floor and are very comfortable. You could also get a twin frame and lay a sheet of plywood in the frame to raise it up even more and look like a real bed. It would disassemble and take less space than the first suggestion!
- Q:I want to know how high your end table needs to be in relation to your sofa. Also what are the appropriate heights for the coffee table and console table in relation to the sofa height. I know it has something to do with the seat height and the arm height. THanks!
- I just made an end table and it is about 4 inches lower than the arms on my couch. The logic here is that it is a minimal amount of arm movement to reach into a bowl of pretzels or get a good grip on a beverage can which is setting on top of the table.

- a sofa bed is when you take off the cushions off of a sofa and an entire bed folds out from inside the couch and is the same width of the couch (so basically a full size bed). A pullout bed is a bed (not a couch) which has a second side bed slide out from underneath it in order to add a second twin size bed to the room (having the ability to slide it in and out saves room). But in this case, the slide out bed is almost always a twin size

- Dump a quart of goat blood on the carpet next to the sofa. I guarantee no one will notice the crayon and food stains. Also, you might want to invest in some coloring books and plates for your children.

- My flat coated retriever LOVES to make himself at home on the sofa. So I went to Home Depot and purchased those plastic carpet runners with the spiky things on the bottom side. You can purchase basically the same thing in several dog supply catalogs for much, much more. When I leave for the day, I lay these across the sofa, 3 across, draped front to back (otherwise he just pulls it off). Works like a charm! Kris
