- Q: Obviously, the PB sofa is nicer, but it costs three times as much. PB offers more choice of fabrics, but with a toddler, I think maybe I should just get a basic white that I can spot bleach when something gets spilled. On the other hand, in a few years, I might be really annoyed if I have to buy a whole new sofa from Ikea rather than just a new slipcover from PB, although a whole sofa from Ikea is still cheaper than a slipcover from PB.Any advice?
- I would advice that you go with the Ikea sofa. I doubt your toddler can completely ruin a couch in 3 years and this would make Ikea smarter. Even if they can, that would mean they would be able to ruin the pottery barn one, costing you three times as much. Ikea generally has good quality products so I wouldn't worry about it being ruined. Spot bleaching is easy so I especially vote Ikea.

- If the sofa is saturated, looks like you'll have to buy a new sofa. My neighbor had to deal with the same thing. Her dog peed all over her sofa and all over the floor. Maybe try a fabric freshener and disinfectant things. Try seeing if a pet shop sells anything for that.
- Q: davenport? Where did the term davenport originate?
- I had no idea until I did a search, and Ju Ju had the correct info. I had forgotten the term, 'daveno' which our family used and 'davenport' before that. According to Wickipedia, 'daveno' was used mainly in the northwest. That was during the 50's at one location I lived. After my mom got a new designed couch, around 1958, it became a couch and no longer a daveno, or the earlier 'davenport'. I don't know when the word 'couch' became popular, but I know I used it when we all moved into a new house with a basement 'party room', and we had a couch in there. I never knew any- one use the term, 'sofa' in the nw. city I grew up in. Since in the early to mid 50's we used the word, 'daveno' toward two sectionals that if placed together, would make a stand- ard length couch, I wonder if that was the actual term for the shorter, two seater version of a 'davenport'. At my grandmas early house, she had a 'davenport' that was standard length, and was a puffy overstuffed couch, with very thick cushions. They mostly were during the 40's. I think it was 'comfort' not looks, as the desire when those were made. They were huge and heavy. And probably made to last a lifetime back then. And could have, had the 50's not brought in a modernization of living room furn- iture. Seems the newer, the cheaper components, and nothing holds up to last a lifetime anymore.
- Q: HM Ausin high back sofa in need of new leather seating cushion covers, otherwise it looks good. Is it worth the money and how much would should I expect to spend?
- You will NEVER match the leather, so don't even consider that remedy. However, HM is a very good quality sofa, so I would highly consider having the seat back cushions reupholstered in a rich tapestry fabric. The look is very fashionable the cost will be RELATIVELY minimal. Call the best upholsterer you can afford cause this will be a worthwhile investment.
- Q: I have an ikea klippan sofa, and i'm getting the 'natural' cover for it. My other sofa is an ikea ektorp, and the only new cover i can afford for this is the white one. Will the 2 sofas look good together? Or should i get the klippan white cover instead of beige?I can't picture them together to see if they'll match! I prefer the cream/beige to white covers though. Could i maybe dye the ektorp cover to match the natural beige klippan do you think?Any help would be great. Thank you!
