- Q:The carpet guy came to our house and measured our room out the other day, and said to put the baseboards in after. I read on a lot of sites to do the base boards first. Is the carpet company asking us to do it this way so its easier for them? Should we put baseboards in first even though they say not to?
- If your doing newly painted base boards( you don t say) they may have trying to avoid scratching freshly painted boards or a newly urethaned base.. Since paint wont thoroughly cure for a month, even a careful installer can scratch baseboards.The backing on new anti static carpets can be worse than sandpaper. I m not defending them,but showing you a point from a store owner/installer s view. I agree that baseboards should be installed 1st with a small gap under them so carpet can be tucked in and cut. - Q:My fiance and I are moving into our brand new house this week. The home is brand new but has been sitting empty for nearly a year. My question is with the brand new carpeting, I know I should at least vacuum to remove the loose/excess fibers in the carpet, but I'm also debating renting a basic carpet cleaner from Home Depot. Would that be overkill or should it be done?
- Depends if it's a good quality carpet. If it's a cheap thin carpet I wouldn't advise you deep clean it as the water will saturate it and also make the underlay and floor boards damp which makes it smell. Unfortunately we have that problem now from washing our carpet. I would suggest maybe using shake n vac if you have that in the states just to freshen it up.

- Q:Is one of the two supposed to be softer than the other? More durable? Easier to clean? I want a sisal type area rug. I want a casual look that would go with my blend of tradtional and contemporary decor. I do not want a scratchy rug with fibers that quot;stick upquot; like bristles on a brush! I thought the sisal would be softer and more pliant to the touch, but a decorator friend said the jute is what I want.I believe seagrass is the scratchy, bristle-y fiber, and I don't want that. Jute is also soft, one of the softest natural fiber rugs. I guess the best way to compare the textured feel is to go into a rug shop and feel the difference of the materials.
- Q:how do I find out how much its worth?
- take it to a dealer i can give u and estimate since i sold mine. 3 by 4 meter for $2500 CAD and bigger one i forgot the size for $4000 CAD look in the yellow pages or just go a store see if they have an inspector. it should sell for god amount of money depending on condition and how old it is.

- I wash mine .... I just put it on hand wash and fold them in half.... and dry on low or air .... and continue to check on em until they are just about dry!
