- Q: I came across a probability problem and am having trouble coming up with the answer. There are 9 people in a group and 9 chairs to sit in. If 3 of them are girls and 3 chairs are pink, what are the chances that the 3 girls sit in the 3 pink chairs? Assuming everything is perfectly random and each person has the same probability to sit in any of the 9 chairs. Thanks!

- Chairs aren't involved with the reproduction process of trees, therefor are not part of evolution. But scientifically, if you see a chair that is 99.9% wood, it would obviously lead your research to trees when searching for an origin.

- You have to look at the chair in its original context. Look at other furniture from 1929 and you won't see anything else like the Barcelona chair. Mies van der Rohe and Lily Reich were pioneers for designing this chair from heir choice of materials, minimal lines, construction (stainless steel had just been developed). When properly built to original specs, it takes a lot of high quality materials and skilled labor to produce -- around 28 hours of labor is involved. $3900 is not much for 28 hours of labor considering all the sales people, craftsmen, managers, suppliers, delivery people, laborers needed to build and move one chair. Plus all those people require work buildings, offices, insurance, cars/trucks, phones... etc. $3900 only gets you the cheaper model, there is one made of higher grade materials at $6,000. When the chair was originally designed, it did not sell for that dollar amount, the price has been adjusted for inflation, but it still was not cheap back then, it is and will always be an exclusive item. Surely, the chair can be mass-produced by machine now and sold for cheap at Target, but then it wouldn't be an exclusive item anymore. BMW and Lexus could cheapen their products for everyone to have, but then, why bother? There are Corollas and Ford Focus for the ones who don't want to/can't spend the money. By the way, it's not a simple chair at all, it's very complex, it just looks simple because in the past 7 decades, other chair designers were inspired by that iconic design. It;s iconic because it was ground-breaking, an original thought at the time. To say it is simple is to say paper is simple... yes it sort of is, but it took humans millions of years to get around to inventing it.

- Q: My 18 month old son is a big tall boy. He has outgrown his Fisher Price Rainforest high chair. We tried a booster seat but he just gets right down. We tried the straps but they dig into his legs and tummy and he complains. I feel he still needs to be in a high chair that can sit up to the table. Weirdly, the only chair he seems to stay in comfortably are the ones in restaurants (the wooden kind..)Any idea where to buy one like that or do you have any other ideas?Any help would be appreciated!
- I bought a wooden restaurant high chair at a local kids resale shop. You can buy them new at restaurant supply stores (like smart and final). Ikea also has a similar type chair, it is not as thick and sturdy, but it pushes up under the table and is also made of wood. I got one of those off of craigslist.

- Pick up a chair and put it on the table, easiest way to prove that there is a chair on the table, if not you can still only fool those who don't know what a chair is. EDIT: Fine then, put a mime on the table and have him sit on this chair if he does a good enough job with it then it might fool some unsuspecting people.

- 1st chair is the head of the section. I'm assuming you are in a violin section, because usually there aren't 7 or more of anything else. Don't worry about it. Music is fun wherever you are in the orchestra, and there is a lot less pressure on someone a few stands back from the front. All of this scrapping over who is in front of whom just makes everyone miserable.

- It does look like a very nice chair. Since it was designed by a civil engineer, the price, cant be considered too ridiculous. I think you have answered you own Q though since you did say it's your dream chair. I wouldn't let stranger get in the way of my dreams.
- Q: What we have available for the site are these not so great metal chairs! Don't really have the budget to rent chair covers (and probably would not want to even if we did) so I'm really just looking for something to decorate the back a bit to make it prettier. After all, most of the chair is going to be covered anyway by a person!But the backs of a metal folding chair..yuck..not pretty.Anyone have any ideas out there?
- I am answering off the top of my head... but could you go to Wal-Mart and buy cheap fabric and make a little cover that just goes over the top of the chair? (you can probably even just sew 2 pieces of fabric together and slip it over the top of the chair and have it just long enough to cover the back... I may not be explaining myself very well. Dollar store - big bows, or some bridal ribbon and a pretty silk flower, and scotch tape it on the back of the chair If you choose to go with a flower, maybe you can get some magnet tape, cut a couple little pieces for each decoration... then it'll be easy on and easy off and won't ruin the paint on the chairs. best of luck!
