- Q:I'm trying to earn some brownie points with my wife after making her angry, so I decided to fix her antique rocking chair that belonged to her grandmother. Initially, just the arm was broken (really loose and would get knocked off really easily.) I sat down on the chair to get a closer look and the entire thing collapsed. It's now sitting on floor in about 10-12 split pieces. She will likely be home in a couple hours, so is there a good way to fix this in a timely manner? I can post more info if needed.

- Well, I don't know if this will help you any but I work in an office and spend a lot of time sitting down. It would be nice to have a chair that has adjustable lumbar support, the kind made out of the microfoam like the new mattresses that have been recently marketed - you know the kind that conform to your body. This way if the back of the chair is adjusted to support your upper back, the lumbar is not over looked. Currently, I have only seen office chairs that support one or the other but not both at the same time. Also, current markets have chairs that massage or vibrate. These are extremely costly and who wants to plug in their chair to an electical outlet or recharge its batteries. I am thinking that if there were a way to create a warming or cooling sensation this might assist with the blood circulation and may be relaxing too. Just a thought. Hope this helps.
- Q:I am repairing one leg of a mortise ant tenon teak chair. The joint has come loose and I dont really want to take the whole chair apart to fix one leg. I know you are supposed to rub the joint with acetone before gluing in up. The problem with that is that I cannot do a good enough job of cleaning the wood as the mortise and tenon is just loose and there is no real way of taking it apart.My question, id there a way of getting the glue sufficiently in the joing without taking the chair apart. Secondly, what glue could I use that doesnt require rubbing the piece with acetone.Thanks
- Try Murphy's Oil Soap (found in local grocery or mass merchant) and a non-scratch pot scrubber (it's like plastic steel wool). This should take off dirt, dust, and gunk without harming the natural finish.
- Q:These kind of chairs are used in art and animation academies. but i don't have much informatioin about it. Not even the correct spelling.
- They were used for half-drowning witches. Why they would be used in art nowadays, I cannot imagine. It might be DONKEY chair, which is a normal chair with boxes built under the arms, and/or on the back, for storing equipment. (Because of how donkeys were loaded with packages). It must have a more modern name, but I do not know it. This makes more sense for places where you have to keep small tools handy.

- Dear, it's a little late to be thinking of this now. Frankly, there isn't much you can do at this late date, and if your mom cannot afford any more, as you say, then just get married, have the reception, and move on. Really, no one will be paying much attention to the chairs and years from now what they looked like will NOT even be remembered. TO the person who suggested you run out to a fabric store and buy tulle and ribbons (stating this was INexpensive), she must be from outer space because it would cost you a FORTUNE! Just go with the chairs as they are and relax.
