Magnesium and its alloys have good resistance to corrosion. The rate of corrosion is slow compared with rusting of mild steel in the same atmosphere. - Q: Me and a buddy took the 305 out of the car. I have a 350 to take its place, but was wondering what are the only wires i need to have a clean engine bay. the old engine has a million wires hooking up to everything. Some muscle cars only have spark plug wires, the starter wire and battery cable. What must i do to get mine like that? i dont care about emissions. what must i change or add to the new engine?
- I have an '84 Monte SS and wanted the same thing. Here's what I have: the 2 wires that come from the harness and go to the starter (1 Positive, 1 S terminal), oil gauge wire, temp gauge wire, the alternator wires, the wire going to the distributor cap, and the tach gauge wire going to the distributor cap. That's pretty much it, as well as your battery cables, and spark plug wires. You really don't need to do or add anything as long as it runs and everything works that needs to work, it'll be fine. - Depending on how many wires were damaged and need repaired, I wouldn't recommend a repair unless you can solder them and heat shrink them. And you would want to stagger the joints so they are not all in the same place. Getting a used wiring harness shouldn't cost much. Probably the same as getting all the tools necessary to repair them. (if you don't already have them.) then all you have to do is run the new one along the old one and unplug connectors one at a time.

- Q: What do you use to seal up the hole in the OUTSIDE wall where the cable TV and telephone wires and electrical wires all go thru? I want to replace my telephone wire coming in to the house, because I have DSL and it is really slow. I figured it couldn't hurt to replace the 45 year old wire coming in! :D I'm gonna use the best wire I can find (ANY SUGGESTIONS on what kinda wire to get? :D) to go from the telephone box outside to the DSL jack, but I need to no what to use to seal up the outside hole, when I rip out whatever is plugging it up now! :DThanks! ~Cindy! :D
- to add to what everyone said... sillicone caulking is what you need to use, it would be in the painting section (and plumbing section will have some too) of home depot if you plan on painting over this area you are going to have to substitute the silicone caulk with a paintable caulk, paint will not take to the silicone... CAT5 wire can be used, but as it is still on the voice circuit between the NID outside and your DSL jack you wont see much of a diffrence if you use CAT3 cable... CAT3 is voice grade cable, CAT5 is network grade cable... CAT3 is alittle easier to work with, as it is more flexable, and cheaper... but not by much... when you strip the outter jacket of the cable, leave at least 4-6 inches wraped inside the NID and the jack, so that if needed repairs can be made in the future.. blue/white to green solid blue to red and for line 2 (optional) orange/white to yellow solid orange to black if you are buying the wire per foot, then home depot will be fine, but if you are going to buy a box, check electrical and alarm supply stores, as there prices are much better then home depot...
- Q: My computer kept switching all the time when ever I was playing a game. So I had alook in my computer and a wire I bought to extend the CPU wire. The extended wire had burnt so bad that the wire was showing out of the insulting. Will this effect my computer in any way because it was working fine and I shut it down before I took the wire out does it matter that my psu only has a 4 pin for CPU and my motherboard has a 8pin?
- Rule #1, never add extension wires to any PSU to motherboard... If the wire does not fit, get a different case or different PSU... If the PSU is still working, you should be ok. Just get a proper cable to the motherboard (and/or change PSU). Melted wires are an indication of too much current in the wire for a given wire size. In plain words, the wires were too small for the load they carried. Since your mobo has an 8 pin CPU power socket, you MUST get a PSU that has the same 8 pin. In general, 8 pin can carry twice the current that 4 pin can, hence that is why your wires burned, you were putting too much current through the 4 wire, current that needed the 8 wire plug... A 4 wire will not work - ever, it will still overheat.... Get the right power supply !!!

- It depends on the size of the amplifier. Recommended wire size should be no less than 10 gauge wire for power and ground. 4 or 8 Gauge power wire you need 4 or 8 gauge ground wire . Speaker wire depends on the speaker. Door speakers should use14-16 gauage speaker wire. Subwoofers should use no less than 12 Gauge speaker wire. Remote wire doesn't need to be big at all use can use 16-18 gauge wire for the installation.
- Q: I need to get some wire to hook my capacitor to my amp and every wire I see says that it's power/ground cable wire. Does this mean it's power wire? Or ground wire? Or does it mean you can use it for both?
- to hookup a capacitor you need both power and ground wire, make sure the cables are thick before you put your power cable to the amp it needs to go to + positive side of capacitor and then one cable from the same side to + of amp and for the - negative side you just ground it to the body

- Run a fused (1 amp, 14 AWG) wire from a fuse in the fuse panel that only has power when the car is ON to one side of a switch. From the other side of the switch run the same sized wire to the REM (remote) connection on the amp. This allows for full control and you never have to worry about forgetting to turn off the amp. The switch is so you can turn off the amp at will so as not to give grandma a heart attack in the car. You can find fuse taps and in-line fuse holders at any autoparts store.

- Q: My home is wired for the thermostats with two wires (red and white). I have acquired a new thermostat that requires a Red, White, and Common wire. Using the white wire in that position will power the unit up but it won't trigger the heat. Is there something that can be put in line that will allow this thermostat to work without rewiring the house?
- Connect a new piece of 3 wire to the existing 2 wire and pull it through the wall by pulling the 2 wire. Of course if it gets stuck you will need to measure how far you pulled to know where to cut a hole in the wall. Cutting a hole in the wall if needed, isn't a big deal you just put the piece back, screw or nail it down (cut so you have studs on both sides to reattach it later) tape and plaster and paint.
