Q: What are the luffing, slewing, and walking points of a tower crane?
The luffing of a tower crane is the forearm of a crane;Slewing means the steering mechanism of a crane;Walking means the walking trolley on the luffing range of a crane
Q: i am making a wired crane robot to pick and drop a wooden block of about 5*5*10cm dimension. I would like to know wat r the different possible lifting mechanisms by which i can lift the wooden block.Ideas other than the normal claw shaped lifters
There are different attachments that you can put on the end of your crane to pick up this block. You can make a set of forks (like a forklift) that would slide under the block (block would have to be elevated on a skid). You can pick up this block with a suction cup. You can also pick up the block by clamping the sides of the block by replicating a scissor type mechanism.
Q: I have seen a crane sitting in a tree watching over the pond in my front yard. I have never seen any fish in the pond and so i am curious as to why the crane is there. I thought cranes only hangout by ponds if there are fish. Does anyone have an research hypotheses to why the crane is there?thanks in advance
They are opportunistic feeders that change their diet according to the season and their own nutrient requirements. They eat a range of items from suitably sized small rodents, fish, amphibians, and insects, to grain, berries, and plants. The cranes as a family consume a wide range of food, ranging from animal to plant matter. When feeding on land they consume seeds, leaves, nuts and acorns, berries, fruit, insects, worms, snails, small reptiles, mammals and birds. In wetlands roots, rhizomes, tubers and other parts of emergent plants, other molluscs, small fish and amphibians are also consumed as well. The exact composition of the diet varies by location, season and availability. Within the wide range of items consumed there are some patterns; the shorter-billed species usually feed in drier uplands while the longer-billed species feed in wetlands
Q: How do they erect those giant cranes used for constructing tall buildings?
They hire the Egyptians that are on lay off from building pyramids to build the cranes.
Q: How do you get a crane down from a tall building once it's completed?
It gets disassembled and flown down with a chopper.
Q: Last week, I decided to make 1000 paper cranes as a new project. I am very craft- oriented, and have made numerous knitted scarfs, crocheted blankets (still in the works), and cross stitch patterns for family members. I have made 2 large cross stitch patterns, one for my grandma (took me 2 years to do) and one for my dad (2 months). My mom's birthday is coming up, and I was wondering if I should give her 1000 paper cranes as a present? I haven't yet given her anything that I made, and I feel bad about it. I don't have enough time to cross stitch a pattern or anything, and I can easily make 1000 by December. Would it be a sentimental present? Should I do it? Would she like it? If not, what should I get her? I want it to be something that I made so that it will be personal.
Lol if you *really* want to be crafty... Get a spring (Or several) Glue it to the bottom of a box. Then glue a cardboard piece on top. Then put something heavy... (For example, a glass crane, shoudn't cost much) and put all the paper cranes under it. Then... when she opens the present and takes the glass one out the paper ones will fly everywehre :D
Q: I'm making 1000 origami paper cranes. I started 2 days ago and have 135 done so far but I was wondering what do to with it after. I don't want to just make them and have them sit in my room forever.
Well if you don't want to keep them you can look up organizations that wish to use them for a project. There are a lot for Japan, one that was organized recently for the tsunami was accepting cranes for a fundraiser (every crane sent in earned a certain amount of money with the finished collection being placed in an art museum). I know some hospitals accept cranes for the children's ward, that is what my class did in elementary school we made 1000 and the hospital used them as decorations for the Christmas tree. Then there are individual projects that people start online with which they are accepting cranes to fulfill the one thousand mark for people they know who are sick etc. (relates to the story behind the 1000 paper cranes practice). As a side note if you contact the organization you find a lot of the time the shipping is prepaid you just have to drop them off at the post office. Hope this helps.
Q: An Episode Of War by Stephen Crane
Crane saturates his writing with similes and metaphors.
Q: Pictures, data, manufacturers.
how in the world could you take a tower crane, a huge crane, and mount it on a wall?
Q: You know those machines you pay and get like 15 seconds to operate the fricken metal hand? Can you give me some tips?
make sure you find something that isn't trapped by anything else in the pit.. line up the crane one the front, then move over to the side and line it up... these machines used to be a lot easier 20 years ago, but now the arm doesn't apply much pressure.. it has to be lined up just right or you will never get anything...
