Q:why do diesel truck drivers and excavator operators always leave their engines running?
Truck drivers leave their rigs running because 1) They are asleep and it is hot outside so they are running the A/C 2) They are asleep and it is cold outside so they are running the heater. 3) It used to be said that a rig used up more fuel when you turned it off and on compared to just running it. Depends how long, like restroom breaks, paying for their fuel. A typical big rig uses 1 gallon of fuel an hour just idling. Most trucking companies are finding other ways to keep the driver comfortable while he is sleeping. As for the backhoe operator, I cant answer.
Q:How is mercury obtained and processed from the earth?
The last mercury mine in the US, McDermitt Mine in Nevada closed in 1991. It was an open cut mine using trucks and an excavator to mine a vein of quartz that contained the mercury mineral cinnabar. - mercury sulfide. Cinnabar is a red mineral, usually earthy in appearance but can form red crystals. The USGS reports that red cinnabar can still be seen in rocks in the waste pile at the mine. Cinnabar is the most common mineral for primary mercury production. Underground mines in China also mine cinnabar. The process used at McDermitt was to roast the ore in a stream of air. The cinnabar reacted with oxygen to produce sulfur dioxide and mercury vapor. The mercury vapor was condensed from the air stream. Mercury is produced as a by product of electrowinning of copper. The mercury collects together with other metals as a sludge at the bottom of the electrowinning tanks. One of the biggest produces of by-product mercury is the Yanacocha Gold Mine in Peru. Mercury occurs along with the gold. Yannacocha is a large surface mine using electric shovels and trucks. The process at Yanacocha is to treat the ore with cyanide solution, which dissolves both the gold and the mercury. Both gold and mercury are precipitated on carbon , from where there are again redissolved with cyanide and then precipitated with zinc powder. The loaded zinc is the smelted to recover the gold and mercury. The mercury is vaporised in the smelter and recovered by the pollution control equipment. The price of mercury has been hovering around $600 for a 76 lb flask. Use of mercury is declining and is down to about 2000 tons per year. Much of this is provided by recycling. The use of florescent lights for energy saving may increase consumption. Mercury is very hazardous. The links give more information.

Do you mean a rectangular, 10 x 10 hole? If so: No... at least not very deep. The excavation wall in most earth materials loses structural stability, and so excavation below some practical depth must be sloped to prevent failure. Even in a very competent rock, you cannot go very deep... I'm also neglecting the practicalities of the usual excavation equipment, like a backhoe or excavator, which are limited by the mechanical-arm length and geometry. I guess if you wanted to dig a 10 x 10 hole by HAND (or jackhammer or something), and you progressively reinforced the excavation walls above you as you went, then yes, I suppose you could go pretty deep. OSHA might have something to say about it, but I'm being theoretical as you asked, or semi-theoretical. Now, if you are DRILLING, so that your circular boring is 10 units (inches, feet, whatever) in diameter, then your hole stays more or less the same diameter, although there is wallow-out at the top, and maybe some small percentage of variability throughout- depending on the competence of the earth-material. Even then, you would case a deep boring to prevent wall-failure when you withdraw the augers. What you case it with depends upon your purpose- steel, PVC, cast in-place concrete, whatever. There are also cool boring machines that can drill lovely, round holes of consistent diameter through rock. There's probably plenty of other tech that I'm not experienced or familiar with with, too.

I always buy bucket teeth from China suppliers and at the very beginning I bought from a supplier in Zhejiang area and later found several suppliers there.Their prices are pretty good, and all are sold by kg,3 dollars per kg and even lower than that for some not so large bucket teeth. I was deeply impressed by their prices and bought several types to try,but honestly speaking,their performance is not so satisfying and the situation is like what you mentioned,they cracked very soon.Anyway, I think I just got what I paid because they are much much lower than the original ones,aren’t they? However,if you care much about the quality,you may try other resources. I used to bought some ESCO bucket teeth from a company named AS Machinery and their bucket teeth are rather better and 3 times longer than these ones I mentioned first and the prices are not so expensive as the original esco bucket teeth. One more thing,they carry many kinds of bucket teeth,for example,the Komatsu bucket teeth,VOLVO bucket teeth,CAT bucket teeth,etc.,so it will save you much time and cost to source if you have many different machines in hand.Anyway,hope my experience would be of some help for you,my friend.
