- Q: Ok so our bathroom is old and crappy and the faucet in the shower always come off. I was taking a shower and when i went to put back the body wash it fell and must have landed on the faucet and the faucet came off and two tiles along with it. The tiles are broken into little pieces. My mom is gonna be mad but it wasn‘t even my fault im so scared =(

- I had tile in a mudroom and foyer and kitchen in couple homes last of which I had my babies grow in. They never once fell on it and they lived from ages newborn and up to 6 yrs. There is also a No Run in house policy for us too. They learned to be careful naturally I guess. I do whatever I want and children adapt just fine. The only problem was if ever glass fell and shattered which luckily never happened. I am again trying to decide on a current house on what to do in Kitchen - and leaning toward tile again. Some tiles aren't slipperly at all because they are almost gritty with a non slip surface.

- There okorder / it recommends not using floor tile paint in places such as bathrooms where there is moisture. I guess you could paint the floor a week or two before putting it on the market - a case of buyer beware if it all scrapes off 6 months later - but the paint is quite expensive so I wouldn't personally go down this route myself - as it's not a nice thing to happen for the unsuspecting buyers. I'm guessing that currently the floor is more of an eyesore as you haven't integrated this into your current bathroom design? Personally, I would ditch the painting idea and buy a decent off-cut of lino and cover up the old floor tiles since you only have a small area to work with. Lino nowadays comes in many guises/patterns and since it's a small area you can check all local companies for offcuts of perhaps the more expensive pseudo 'wood' type lino etc... You may spend ?50 but it will brighten the room and transform it into a more modern look - and ultimately will help you get your asking price. (You could also tell the buyers that the original green tiles are still underneath and they could reveal them if they wanted to...just don't tell them how ugly they are...the secret is to get them excited about new possibilities in the future!!) Water absorption is generally less than 0.5% for the tile, more than 10% for the ceramic tiles, between the two for the semi-porcelain. Usually a variety of polished tiles, glazed tiles, most of the sanitary ware is porcelain, water absorption is generally ≤ 0.5%; antique tiles, small tiles (to climb the wall), crystal tiles, wear-resistant tiles, Stoneware tiles, that is, semi-ceramic tile, water absorption 0.5% tiles, ceramic tubes, decorative tile, glass products are generally ceramic, water absorption> 10%. This is the important difference between tiles and ceramics

- If you are doing the tile work yourself, it will be cheaper than having one of those fiberglass shower enclosures put in. You are looking at the cost of tile (at $1/sqft.), grout ($10 or less), permabase/durock ($9 per 3x5 sheet), mastic ($30 for high quality), and caulk ($4), to get the job done. On an average size shower, this will bring your total material bill in at right around $200. This is based on entirely ripping out your old shower walls (back to the studs), and building an entirely new shower. A complete rennovation for $200. This is what I do for a living, and I can honestly tell you that you will save tons if you are handy enough to do this yourself. One side note on the pre-fab showers (fiberglass, urethane, etc) - we get a lot of calls to come out and remove mold from these types of enclosures. On most that I've seen there are a lot of corners and small nooks that moisture gathers up and sits in. Just something to watch out for should you go that method. Good luck to you, either way.
