- Q:Can u burn tiles?
- You can but it produces a smelly black smoke so you might check with your local fire dept for local laws and possible burn bans.
- Q:I know granite is one, but what other less expensive kinds of tile are durable enough for countertops? Just bought the house so money is tight and granite,or even granite tile, is out of the question.

- Q:We just installed laminate wood floors tiles in our open space living/kitchen room. We put ceramic tiles in the kitchen area the wood laminate in the living area. Due to time constraints we had to get the laminate installed first before the tiles. Our tiler was supposed to put something between the wood the tiles but didn‘t. He‘s not being very cooperative about completing this, so we are trying to do something ourselves.What can we put there, so that the grout stops coming apart where the tiles laminate wood meet?Thanks.
- I would be reluctant to use laminate in any area that is liable to get wet -- snowy boots, washing machine leak, plugged toilet etc. Laminate flooring is very durable but it swells when it gets wet and when it swells it pops up at the joins, then chips. I have had to replace two bathroom laminate floors for just this reason. Use a good quality tile and 3 coats of sealer on the grout. When people have trouble keeping grout clean it is usually because they failed to properly seal it. If you're concerned the tile may be slippery when wet, choose a tile with a bit of texture in it. It will look more high end, give some protection against slipping when wet -- and it will last for as long as you own the home. -- Just be sure to seal the grout 3 days after completion and every couple of years thereafter.
- Q:I installed tile couple of days ago in my shower. I was wondering isn't it better to put bathroom caulking instead of grout since it is flexible and it will last longer and provide better water resistance. Does grout make tile stronger or is caulking only applied on edges? Would I make mistake if I used bathroom caulking between tiles? Thanks
- I'd use grout. It's designed for this job, and last forever. I once lived in a house that was built in about 1929. 50+ years later, most of the grout was good, but the caulk that the landlord had put around the edge of the tub 2 years before was failing. Grout it - and don't use the cheap stuff.
- Q:I am planning on laying some tile today but not sure when it can be walked on. Also, can I lay some today and start again tomorrow? It is in a small bathroom.
- You really shouldn't walk on it until you install the grout and it is dry. You will have to walk on it a little while you are grouting it but wait until it's dry to have regular traffic on the tile. Usually it's good the next day after grouting. Note: Check the tiles after you motor them down for a hollow sound when tapped on. If you have any tiles that sound hollow remove them and then reinstall them because they will crack if you don't

- No you shouldn t.. Dirt, dust and every day stuff will accumulate in the joints and be almost impossible to get out. All tiles are designed to have a space, some smaller and some larger than others. The grout the goes between the tiles is part of the system to make it stable. Sealing the grout is a major help in keeping it clean and stain free, if this is your concern. Porcelain is made to have a sanded grout along with a space of 1/8 to about 1/4 inch. Or 3/6 mm This spacing will also help make up for minor tile sizes that will throw you off if you try to but them tight. - Q:CAN YOU LAY TILE OVER TILE
- If your existing tile is tight to the floor and in good shape (no cracks, loose tile, loose grout) yes you can. You need to use a thin set with a very high latex content like TEC Superflex. Be sure that the existing tile and grout is perfectly clean and there are no sealers left on the grout. This is an industry accepted method.
