Q:When installing a tile floor. Should?
If at all possible remove the cabinet and tile under it this way you will have a new clean and level floor otherwise you are leaving a quarter inch drop off at the least for water, bacteria and mold to grow. As for the crack if you have a circular saw buy an in-expensive carborundum blade or mmasonryfor it then grove out the crack and use a hand chisel wherever you can't reach or use a hammer and mmasonrygouging chisel for the whole crack, diamond wheels on grinders work well also if you have one, then wire wheel or wire brush out the grove and vvacuumit thoroughly then put silicone in it to just below level then using your thin set mix enough to apply a thin layer to each side of the crack and level out the crack then use fiberglass drywall tape and possibly a geo grid type netting or vvinylscreening, if the slab is older and somewhat settled this is the only way without busting out the slab which is probably only 3 inch thick, and pouring a new 6 bag per yard high strength concreteon a vvibratortamped ssubstrate withvapor barriers.
Q:I dropped a hammer on my ceramic tile floor!!?
You should have kept a few spare tiles in case something happens like this, No big deal to replace a tile, scratch out the grout and chisel up the old tile, replace with a new one and re grout.
Q:My Kitchen floor is covered w/ vinyl sheets and it is wood underneath. can i put tiles on wood instead?
I disagree with the other answer. I have put ceramic tile on several floors that had a wood subfloor and vinyl tile on top. Unless your subfloor is very unstable, ceramic tiles will do fine if correctly installed. Ask at Home Depot for the correct kind of Thinset to put on top of vinyl.
Q:Landlord has unmatching tiles in the bathroom?
You should be grateful to have a roof over your head and a landlord who makes costly repairs for your sake. You're a snob and a whiner. Get a life.
Q:Painting glass mosaic tiles?
confusing step research with yahoo or google that will might help
Q:Laying tiles?
Its called wire mesh. Its not used as much anymore. What makes tiles or grout crack is the wood below the tiles. If the floor joists are too far apart and the plywood is not thick enough it can cause the floor to move. Even a little bit of movement can cause the tiles and the grout to crack. The wire mesh will not help if the floor moves.
Q:Cleaning Tile?
i am guessing that you mean ceramic tile first i would recommed using a sealer on it, after you seal it all you need to do is damp mop it. check manufactures instructions on application
Q:Remove wall tiles?
Use a sharp pointed tool to scrape out the old grout. Insert a thin sharp blade like a putty knife under the edge of the tile at the top edge. Hit the handle with a small hammer, sometimes once you get the first one off the others come away easily and you won't damage the wall underneath.
Q:Can I lay linoleum over asbestos tile in the basement?
Bill's answer is correct and in addition to it I will add that depending on where you live it could be against the law to remove it due to the asbestos. It's possible that the law requires you to have a company that's certified with asbestos removal come and remove it. However is anyone going to question you if you DIY? If so there could be some stiff penalties involved. If not than the other thing to consider would be to use a quality dust mask because you don't want to breath that stuff in at all..... We covered our floor insted of ripping it up.
Q:How can I tile my kitchen back splash stylishly and cheaply?
If you need a tile saw Home Depot will rent you one.
