Q:we are trying to remove the old carpets in my house. you see last year, are air conditioner broke and leaked fluid all over the hallway carpet, and now we're trying to remove them. how do you do it with out ruining the floor below.
Go to a corner and simply pull up the carpet. It is probably attached by a tack strip.....a strip of wood with slanting nails to hold the carpet. Remove all of the carpeting and then all of the padding underneath. A dust mask is a good idea while doing this. If you intend to send the carpet out with the trash, cut strips no larger than 4 feet and roll the strips up into tight tubes and tie with string. Last, remove the tack strip. The tack strip has been nailed down. A small nail every 6 inches or so. Remove the strip carefully. If you need to pry, use a piece of the padding or carpet under your pry bar so as not to dent the flooring. You will have some nail holes in the flooring from the tack strip, but this is close to the wall and so it won't be too noticeable. Know that you probably have water damage on the flooring from your leak and you may need to have the floors refinished. Good luck!
Q:that keeps shedding. it's a wool rug and I love it, but I just bought it and it shed shed sheds all over the place. What to do to stop the shedding.....or will it just continue forever?
Spray the rug with a static protector spray from time to time .
Q:I want to get a rug to put under my dinning room table but I'm not sure what kind would be best. I have three small kids.
With three small kids I would not put one there, but if you want one, then make it a colour and print that won't show stains and spills or you will be cleaning it all the time.
Q:I had to pull back the carpet in my hallway. How do I get the edges back down smoothe along the walls? There are strips of carpet tacs.
Anyone that tells you to rent a knee kicker should offer to pay for the knee surgery, one mistake and you'll find out how the doctor pulls your patella back into place after it is torn from using a knee kicker the wrong way 1 stinking time. They should NOT be used by inexperienced people. And because a hallway is so confined it forces you into an awkward position, almost guaranteeing you will strike it wrong. Don't believe me, ask another pro. Lay the carpet down along the edges, and then take a phillips head screwdriver and pull it along the edge forcing the carpet under the molding, then take a scratch awl, and poke it into the carpet at an angle anywhere there is a buckle, pull it towards the wall, and Presto! If you see it starting to wrinkle up in the future, just call a carpet store and ask them to hook you up with an installers number, they will probably take care of it for $50-$75. And you won't injure your knee.
Q:is the carpet easy to have bugs on it, and how to deal with it?
Carpet should be kept as dry as possible. generally, cotton and wool may breed insects, so it depends on what material it is . When the weather is good, you should clean it and hang out in the sun. you should put more refresh plants like pennyroyal at home.
Q:I am making my own rug with a random pattern. One of the strands broke on the canvas and i have a large area i can't work. How do I repair this? Any help or suggestions (other than start over) would be appreciated!
I used to make my own hooked rugs...just cut a patch of canvas the approx. size of that damaged area and incorporate the patch into the rest of your wool pattern...you could thread some thread first so it will stay in place as you are hooking the rug...Since it's a random pattern it will not be noticed (only from underneath) Right?
Q:I spilled nail polish on my carpet awhile ago and now it's dry. I tried Spot Shot and other removers, but it won't come out. ): a Pro is not an answer neither is new carpet. I told my mom today and she freaked and now she is trying to help me get it out.SO. WHAT TAKES DRIED ORANGE NAIL POLISH FROM CARPET??HELPPPPPPPPP.
the only element which will completely get that out could be using scissors to decrease it out - nicely, the pile contaminated. maximum different issues might likely only unfold the colour around and make it worse. you're able to attempt using acetone/nail polish remover yet that would discolor the carpet because it eliminates the nail polish. i desire to advise doing a attempt spot some the place on the carpet that isn't considered lots of the time - this could help understand if the acetone will do away with the colour of your carpet in the previous you ruin it. in case you do finally end up ruining that section, you're able to decrease that section out and replace it with a clean piece. yet, the hot piece might likely be from a different dye lot and not tournament. solid success!
Q:I have a heavy recliner sofa and chairs. These are on heavy metal frames which leave a a square indent in the carpet as well as the 4 corner feet. Does anyone know of any carpet protectors made especially for these type of sofas. UK
Hi, I am a carpet fitter and have been for 7 years. One of the biggest parts of my job is moving furniture for the eldery customers so I can fit the carpet. You do see coaster type things under chairs and sofa's etc. This seems to make very little if any difference at all. The only advice I can give you is to avoid underlay and go for a thin pile carpet as that does help with preventing an indentation. If the sofa or chairs way a lot you will get a slight indentation anyway. Although avoiding underlay will not feel nearly as nice to walk on. You may be able to buy specialist one's but if you put enough pressure on a particular area/area's of a carpet you will get an indentation. Please message me for further help and I will be more than willing to do so. Joe Kingsland Floors
Q:I am thinking of buying a carpet shampooer. We just bought a house that has a lot of carpet. Is it smarter to buy a shapooer or keep having someone come in and do it for us? And if a shampooer is ideal which is the best brand?
Depending on how often you shampoo your carpet, you will definately get your monies worth in just a couple months or so. My daughter and I have asthma and I have 3 kids...that's enough said, so I clean my carpets about every 6 weeks due to the asthma whether they need it or not. I bought a bissel from wal-mart for about $80 so I had gotten my moneys worth in just two cleanings. I've now had that same bissell about 5 years so it is very worth it just purchase one. I love mine and my sister n law and friends had borrowed it a few times and decided to just buy one for themselves and have never been sorry!!
Q:I am redoing a room. Should it be painted before new carpeting? I want the baseboards nicely painted. Just not sure what should be done first.
There is not a wrong or right answer to this question. I always recommend to paint first, that way you don't have to worry about getting paint on your new carpet. Be sure to pull the old carpet away from your baseboards, just to make sure you don't get aline that will show if the new carpet that goes in is shorter. If you really are replacing the carpet it is easy to take a utility knife and just cut about an inch into the existing carpet and pull that part away from the wall. If you are having to live with the carpet for while, then just take an edger and pull the carpet back as you paint. If boards get scuffed when new carpet goes in, it is easy to touch up the scuffed areas. You might want to paint as much as 30 days in advance to give the paint a chance to cure out, less chance of scuffing as paint will be harder, not soft.
