Q:Does stranded wire have significantly higher inductance than solid wire?
You question about Inductance seems illogical. I can't imagine how a straight wire will affect a sudden discharge of current unless the wire is coiled (inductor) or have a shield attached to ground(capacitor). I believe the difference between the two wires are their direct current resistance which is very negligible if the wires are just a few feet long. The Capacitor that will discharge current directly to a coil is a 'tank circuit' and is a type of oscillator. Most likely, The inductance you will experience is caused by the power coil itself that feeds it back to the capacitor and vise versa. If that is true, I recommend a reverse shunt diode across the coil and a series diode between the capacitor and the coil.
Q:my dryer has 3 wires(yellow, white, blue) but my plug has 4 wires(red,white,green,black)which go where?
A little background here. Your dryer is a 220 volt appliance and until recently they had only 3 wires to it, to match the receptacle. Now they seperated the neutral (white) and the ground (green or bare copper) but the two still attach to the same busbar at your electrical power panel. So heres the color schematic you need. Your dryer hot wires are yellow and blue and attach to the red and black wires which are 110 volt hot wires from the panel (together they add up to 220) , the white wires go together as these are your neutral wires which return power to the panel thus completing your circuit, the green or bare copper wire can be attached to the white wires or attached to the metal electrical box if you have one as the equipment box. Your receptacle box may be plastic which then you have no choice but to attach it to the white wires. If you have a electrical meter, it would show 110 volts across either the red/yellow or blue/black wires to either the white or green wires, with 220 volts measuring across the red/yellow and blue/black connections. There is no appliance that runs on 220 volts but rather 2 110 volt circuits,which in a dryer one 110 v circuit runs the timer and lights while the other runs the heating element itself. Be sure to turn off the breaker before attempting and make sure your connections are good and tight or youll have problems. Good luck

Sorry but that's not exactly the case. The thin wire actually burned thru because you exceeded it's ability to carry the current of the circuit that you connected to it. The thick wire glowed for the same reason. You probably have a short circuit in the device that the terminals are on. It would be impossible to address the resistance and current with the limited information that you have given us.

U JUST RUN THE HOT(RED) WIRE TO THE BATTERY. U ALSO MIGHT HAVE TO HOOK UP THE MEMORY WIRE(YELLOW WIRE) AND THE REMOTE ( SOLID BLUE) WIRE TO THE POSITIVE TERMINAL OF THE BATTERY AS WELL BEACAUSE SOME RADIOS WONT TURN ON WITHOUT THESE WIRES COONECTED. If the ceiling fan has three speeds, those would be wired to a 3 position switch as low, medium and high. Normally the wires would be labeled if they use the same color. If they aren't tagged, and you want to put in a speed control switch, you'll need to experiment; either at the fixture, or just wire them down to the wall switch and make your temporary connections there to see which wires go with which speeds (then TAG them!).
